We had a fantastic stay at the Risco del Gato.
The journey in a private transfer took about an hour from the airport.
Check in..On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome. We were given the wifi code & a map of the hotel, which proved very useful until we found our baring's.
The hotel has 3 blocks of rooms, there are approx. 60 suites.
Our Room...What incredible rooms, as the hotel name suggests it is a suite. We had room 308, which has a sea view. The location of this hotel means that very few rooms have a full sea view, but our view was still magnificent. We had a bedroom with 2 large double beds, a TV, dressing table, and a stereo player (very retro)
A large wardrobe with a few drawers and the payable safe.
The bathroom is housed in the round part of the suite, has a walk in shower, 2 sinks, a jacuzzi bath & a toilet. The ceiling has a large clear dome so it allows lots of light to flood the room.
There is a lovely sitting area, which has a sofa, a large Fridge with a working freezer compartment, Kettle, Coffee Machine desk & a TV. It is here you can sit and watch the Sea. This room has a wall of glass & overlooks the suites front terrace, which has a table and chairs. The suite has another terrace which is private with sun loungers & an outdoor shower.
The cleaner for our room was Carmen, she did an extremely good job.A small bottle water, wine and apples milk/sugar sachets complimentary
The hotel is not new & modern, some of the fixtures in the bathroom could do with replacing, but only from an aesthetic point of view.We had wifi throughout the hotel & found it fast & reliable.
Restaurant & Entertainment...We were booked with B&B. Breakfast was brilliant. It is served buffet style in the restaurant, with lots of choice. There is an egg station for fried, boiled, omelette as well as bacon & pancakes.
Please note if you are a vegetarian that the bacon is cooked on the same hot plate.
The bar in the reception area was open in the evenings, the last night we stayed there was a singer performing in the hotel.
The drinks on the hotel were reasonably priced.
Pools..The hotel has 3 pools, 2 outdoor and a heated indoor pool. We did not have issue securing a sunbed at any time of the day.
The hotel provides pool towels, which you collect and return to a lovely lady sat near the pools. There was no daytime entertainment or even music around the pools.
Grounds and facilities...The grounds are well kept and have housing station for wildlife and cats. The cats can be seen roaming the hotel grounds and as they are well fed by the hotel they do not approach you.
Gym & Spa...The hotel does have a gym but the equipment is neglected and I was unable to do a basic workout.
Apparently the running machine does work, but I am not a running type of girl!! There were no free weights to speak of and the lifting weights were not of much use. Some of the equipment looked like it was usable but there were no diagrams on each piece. So my one plea to the hotel would be get some new bikes, a new cross trainer and free weights so that a basic workout can be achieved.
We did not visit the Spa.This is a very peaceful hotel, and is a great place to relax. We hardly saw another guest outside of meal times, it felt like we had the hotel to ourselves at times.
Beach...The beach is a short walk from the hotel and it is downhill.
Restaurants and shops...Costa Calma is not a big bustling resort. It has a few restaurants and bars ,a few touristy shops, 2 spars and a hiperdino. which are approx 5-10 min walk from the hotel.
The architecture of the hotel is very interesting and there are pictures and information in the reception and bar area and the reception staff were also very knowledgeable about the hotel when we asked questions.
We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel, we have mentioned its imperfections but this did detract from the enjoyment we had whilst staying here.

Had a wonderful time. Lovely sea view (we paid extra) room had everything we needed and had lots of space.
Staff are wonderful, nothing is a problem and they are super friendly. Some parts are a bit jaded but didn't bother us.
You can walk into town and the hotel is near the FV2 for touring.
Near the beaches, shops bars etc. Not one of those big hotels which are a bit impersonal at times. Great place may go back again, which we don't normally do.

Delightful hotel which is very different from the soulless corporate buildings nearby. Lovely gardens and wonderful self contained rooms. The breakfast choice is absolutely wonderful. We had bed and breakfast so did not eat an evening meal in the hotel. The restaurant that adjoins the hotel (Restaurant Del Gato) is outside the security gate - the food was quite good but the building itself is somewhat lacking in atmosphere - it is a pity they could not bring this restaurant into the grounds so that you could eat outside in the cactus garden rather than a dated marquee. It was also a bit strange for a 4 star hotel that you had to pay for coffee in your room - this would normally be free. The hotel itself would benefit from having a bar in the evening where you could chill with a glass of wine.

Relaxing, quiet, great for escape and chill out time holiday hotel. Great location, walking distance from the beach. Very friendly staff. Suits are very clean, with the advantage of your own garden/ sun bathing area. Great choice of food for breakfast and excellent service. I was pleased with all the facilities within a suit and within the hotel.
