The rooms in the main building are nice, but extremely noisy at night. There were lots of drunk people outside after the bar closed at 1 AM.
The food was good, but there was a lack of cups, glasses, and plates — and the overall cleanliness was just awful.
The surroundings are beautiful — a lovely oasis — but the hotel itself is in desperate need of renovation. It’s basically falling apart.
We stayed at this hotel many years ago and find it a real shame that it has been so poorly maintained.

My recent stay at Costa Calma Beach Resort was, without exaggeration, one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. From the moment I stepped into the room, it was clear this place is severely neglected. The rooms are woefully outdated, feeling like a blast from a past no one wants to revisit. To make matters worse, essential amenities like electrical outlets simply didn't work, making it impossible to charge devices. And as if that wasn't enough, we were regularly greeted by cockroaches scuttling around, a truly disgusting sight that immediately makes you question the hygiene standards.
The issues extended far beyond the room. The pool area was a hazardous mess, with broken glass scattered everywhere – a serious safety concern, especially for families. Adding to the chaos were feral cats that seemed to enjoy attacking guests, making relaxation by the pool an impossibility. If you're hoping for a nice beach experience, look elsewhere. The beach wasn't sandy at all; it was rocky and completely unsuitable for swimming.
And then there's the food. The breakfast, lunch, and dinner were absolutely horrific. It wasn't just the quality of the food ); the dining area was perpetually dirty. Finding a clean table, cup, or even a glass of water was a constant struggle. It's painfully obvious the hotel is severely understaffed, leading to a complete lack of attention to basic cleanliness and service.
In short, this hotel is dirty, dangerous, and utterly uninviting. I strongly advise anyone considering a stay here to look for alternative accommodations. You'll be glad you did.

While the hotel is in a nice location and has two decent pools, beach access, and plenty of chairs to go around, it is clearly crumbling down.
While we complained to the hotel directly, we have yet to hear back anything so we are posting. There are quite a few negatives to list:
- Plates and glasses are constantly dirty and clearly unwashed (see pictures - not even the worst we had). This is unsafe consumer practice and we have reported them to the food health and safety authorities for this.
- When we pointed this out to the head chef Victor and head of the hotel Javier, and both said to file a complaint to management regarding this. We filed the complaint and have not heard anything back yet.
- Supposedly the dishwasher had been broken for 1-2 weeks, which was the cause for this issue, but there are several ways this could have been handled.
- After we pointed out the dirty dishes, the hotel reduced the number of plates to try and wash them better. However, now all guests had fewer plates, on occasion no plates to eat from, and they were still dirty.
- We spotted cockroaches roaming around the restaurant.
- Bar staff did not check glasses for dirtiness and were annoyed when asked to replace it with a clean glass.
- Restaurant is clearly overwhelmed and understaffed. Like other guests have stated in their reviews, we also had to wait for our tables to be cleaned before sitting down because half the tables were still messy by the time we got around to them.
Besides these main points, there are other negatives:
- Our door lock did not work, and when brought up to reception, nothing was done to fix this other than "report it" but we did not hear of anyone coming to fix it during our stay.
- Rooms have two beds which move, meaning that as a couple you cannot sleep together. When we asked the first evening, one staff member said there were sheets that could fit over it, which turned out to be false. The hotel only has single beds "for safety reasons", which is puzzling. If you try to use the two beds as one, they separate and slip away, which is most certainly more unsafe than having one large bed.
- Junior staff at the snack bar was being harassed by their boss in Spanish (they thought we wouldn't speak it and not notice - mistake).
- The reception staff that was nice was not properly trained and the ones that were trained were rude.
All complaints we had were just referred to a complaints form to fill out in writing and that if we wanted "real change" we had to report it to the "higher ups". Whatever this system is, it is very clear to us that there is no accountability at this hotel and that management could not care less about consumers or staff as long as the money keeps coming. Junior staff is not properly informed or treated, making it unsurprising that many of the staff were new.
This disappointing experience is really a shame because the location provides the opportunity for a very good hotel. Unfortunately, this is definitely not the case and I would not recommend for anyone to go there and give management any more money. There is no excuse for the lack of service they provide.

Stayed in July 2019 for 2 weeks. Best hotel that we've stayed at so far. The entertainment staff were brilliant, with an Italian couple running all the evening shows, getting hotel guests onto the stage, whenever possible. The daytime entertainment also very good. Would stay again, looking at going back next year

In the room no kettle. Tea, coffee sugar.
Depending on your location you have to walk quite a way to get a drink.
Not enough plug points in town rooms.
It says disabled friendly but it's not, lots of stairs and distances.
Chair in room metal showing and furniture
Needs updating. Furniture damaged.
Bedding and towels holes in.
Freezer is packed with ice, we reported it but nothing has been done.
Advertises online that there is a gym but it's 15 minutes away, not on site. It's in another hotel.
Pool area
Lots of tiles broken around the pool area.
Not enough cushions to go on the sun loungers.
And in the lounge - basket chairs with no cushions on them.
Not all bar areas are open. So lots of walking to get hot and cold drinks.
Alcohol is not nice, it doesn't taste how it should.
Food area
Plates and cups in food area, are not checked, so they are dirty.
Food not labelled in the serving areas.
In the bar area, had to ask for glasses.
There is always something to eat for Breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Entertainment.
WiFi signal is very poor, can't use in rooms. Only in certain areas. Very slow.
Entertainment is ok.
10 Euros deposit for beach towel.
Should be a smoking area. Not by the pool.
It doesn't deserve a 4 star rating.
