We've just returned from our third stay at the wonderful IL Mercato hotel, and once again, it exceeded all expectations! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality. This hotel truly feels like a home away from home.
Exceptional Service
A special mention must go to the hotel manager, who consistently demonstrates incredible kindness and care. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-equipped. The pools were sparkling and refreshing, and the splashpark was a huge hit with our daughter (and us!). The convenience of having a McDonald's right there was an added bonus!
We are already planning our next trip back from the UK and can't wait to return to our favorite hotel! Thank you, IL Mercato, for another unforgettable holiday!

I was very disappointed with my stay at IL Mercato Hotel & Spa. I booked a Superior Room, but the room I was given was far from superior and had numerous maintenance and cleanliness issues.
The bathroom exhaust fan was not working, the door hatch/lock was broken, and we had serious issues locking the room door. On two occasions, I had to go back to reception because the door would not lock properly. When a staff member finally came to check, his attitude was extremely unprofessional — he spoke to me as if I was lying and appeared visibly unhappy to be dealing with the issue. In general, staff throughout the hotel seemed unhappy and irritated with guests, which made the experience very uncomfortable.
The bathtub had a visible crack, which management initially ignored. When we later discovered that water from the shower was leaking down to the floor below, only then did the hotel react and move us to another room. This should never have been allowed in the first place. In the bathroom, the bath plug was missing, and despite complaining to reception, nothing was done.
Cleanliness was another major concern:
- The area behind the fridge was dirty and filthy
- Spotlights were hanging out of their holders
- Mirrors had black patches and were clearly not well maintained
Breakfast was also disappointing. The food did not taste fresh and appeared dry, as if it had been sitting for days. This was well below the standard expected of a hotel claiming a higher rating.
Out of the three hotels I stayed in during my time in Sharm El Sheikh, this was by far the worst experience. In my opinion, this hotel does not meet the standards of a 4-star property and feels more like a lower 3-star hotel at best.
I would not recommend this hotel unless significant improvements are made to room maintenance, cleanliness, food quality, and — most importantly — staff attitude toward guests.

I stayed here with my partner and children in January 2023 for 2 weeks and we loved every minute of our stay. Our rooms were big and very clean, we had a nice balcony, and the cleaners came in every morning also making animals out of the towels and leaving them on the bed for my kids to see. They loved it. The restaurant in very nice and the food is delicious. The pools are quite big and the pool on the rooftop is beautiful with stunning views. Everybody at that hotel was super helpful, polite, and even got us discounts with all our excursions. I would highly recommend this hotel.

My family and I stayed at this hotel recently, and unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing from the moment we arrived. I feel it’s important to share everything that happened so future guests are aware, and so management understands the seriousness of these issues.
1️⃣ Check-in & Room Issues
Upon arrival, we were given different room numbers than those we had booked and paid for. When questioned, staff claimed they were “upgrades” and tried to charge us €10 extra for one room and €20 extra for the other. Only after we insisted on the original rooms did they suddenly decide to give them “for free because it was our first time.” This immediately felt dishonest and unprofessional.
Once in the room, we discovered multiple maintenance issues:
• Hairdryer broke twice (replacement lasted one day)
• Balcony door was broken
• Bathroom was not properly clean, with visible dirt inside the bathtub
• Shampoo dispenser was coming off the wall and there were ants inside the cracks
We also had to ask repeatedly for basic essentials, including toilet paper, which is unacceptable for a 5-star hotel.
2️⃣ Housekeeping Problems
It felt like nothing was done properly unless we tipped first. On days we didn’t leave a tip, we didn’t receive fresh towels, even when we left the room accessible for cleaning. On several occasions, face towels and body towels were missing, and refills were inconsistent.
3️⃣ Conflicting & Unclear Information
We were given different answers depending on who we asked, especially regarding drinks. One staff member said wine and soft drinks were included, yet other guests were told €2–€4 per glass, which created confusion and the feeling that rules were being changed depending on who you were.
4️⃣ Poor Experience With Representatives
The Sun Tour representatives were extremely unprofessional. The moment we said we weren’t interested in excursions, their attitude changed completely. They were rude, dismissive, ignored our questions, and refused to give clear instructions about transfers. When we tried to get the representative’s phone number, we were told we “already had it” and he simply walked away mid-conversation.
5️⃣ Cleanliness Concerns & Insects
Although we personally didn’t have cockroaches in our room, other guests we met had cockroaches on their walls, windows and floors, which was extremely concerning and shows a much bigger hygiene problem in the hotel.
6️⃣ Food Quality
The food was very poor and definitely not 5-star standard. I have stayed in 3-star European hotels with significantly better quality, choice and hygiene. This was honestly the worst hotel food I have ever experienced.
7️⃣ Staff Attitude & Guest Treatment
Many staff members were rude, uninterested and unwilling to help unless tipped. It was also clear that Russian guests received noticeably better treatment, which made us feel undervalued and unwelcome.

Overall Conclusion
This hotel is not a 5-star standard in terms of rooms, food, cleanliness, service or professionalism. The overall experience was stressful, uncomfortable and disappointing. I would not recommend this hotel, and strongly advise considering a different resort or even a different area of Egypt, as this one was simply not worth the money.

We stayed in this hotel for ten days. We have some comments to make regarding the location and architecture of the hotel, which are magnificent, with two swimming pools above and two below, as well as an Aqua Park ideal for children. The beach is terrazina with all the necessary amenities. However, I would like to point out the departures of the entertainment manager, Bibo, who rackets tourists to take them to the disco in the evening and does not hesitate to flirt with women, even married ones. I am at the disposal of the management to give them names. The level of entertainment is really poor given the potential of the hotel. The food is acceptable. The rooms are spacious and clean with good room service. The manager does a remarkable job of going to the customers to inquire about their well-being. Thank you.
