We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Jorge at Santa Fe Steakhouse during our stay at the Barcelo Maya Resort, and he truly made our dining experience unforgettable. From the moment we were seated, Jorge greeted us with a warm, genuine smile and immediately made us feel welcomed and taken care of.
His attentiveness, professionalism, and friendly demeanor stood out right away. He anticipated our needs before we even had to ask and provided thoughtful recommendations that perfectly matched our tastes. The food was fantastic, but Jorge’s exceptional service elevated the entire evening to a whole new level.
It’s rare to find someone who brings so much passion and care to their work, and Jorge did just that. He was not only an incredible server but also a genuinely kind and engaging person. If you’re dining at Santa Fe, we highly recommend asking for Jorge — he’ll make your night one to remember.

We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Eduardo Balam during our stay at the Barcelo Tropical buffet, and we cannot say enough wonderful things about him. From the very first meal, Eduardo made our family feel so welcomed and cared for that we immediately requested to sit in his section for every dinner.
He went above and beyond to take care of every single one of our requests, always with a warm smile and incredible attention to detail. What stood out the most was the special care he gave to our two children, aged 8 and 4. Eduardo treated them with such kindness and patience, making sure they had everything they needed and even anticipating their requests before they asked.
Because of Eduardo, every meal felt like a special experience. His exceptional service, professionalism, and genuine warmth made our vacation truly unforgettable. We are so grateful to him and highly recommend requesting Eduardo’s section if you have the opportunity. He is truly one of a kind!

Barcelo maya tropical did not disappoint! Beaches are nice and staff is amazing. The food buffets are pretty good and the hours are extremely flexible. The palmeras sack bar is also really nice for when you want a snack (or full blown meal). It's really close to the beach and pool area which makes it convenient. Rooms are nice and well kept / maintained. Would recommend

Buffet tropical is the best buffet on the resort. Was struggling to adjust to the food and couldn’t really keep anything down. It was refreshing that this specific buffet had people making food fresh. I got the pasta which they cooked in front of me and it really helped to have hot food. The service is also great especially from Luz Guzman who checked in with me at the end of dinner to see how everything was. I got champagne on request and it was all included

first glance, the hotel looked great from the outside, but our experience was full of problems and disappointments.
We originally tried to book directly through the Barcelo website, but it kept logging us out and simply wouldn’t work. As a result, we had to book through a third-party agency (Travelvo). Strangely, the hotel doesn’t allow walk-in bookings either, so we couldn’t just go in and book in person. It was an incredibly frustrating and complicated process just to reserve a room.
Once we checked in, the problems continued. The room felt very unsafe—there was water leaking from the ceiling, and the floor was constantly wet, making it slippery and uncomfortable. The humidity inside the room was unbearable. When we woke up, both the bed and our clothes were soaked from sweat, which made sleeping very unpleasant.
There was also a strange red light in the room that stayed on all night—we had to cover it with a bag just to get some sleep.
The buffet food was disappointing and did not live up to the claim that it offers a variety of international cuisines. It was bland and repetitive. On top of that, making reservations for the Santa Fe restaurants was another hassle. When we went to guest services, the staff member seemed impatient and dismissive. At first, she told us everything was fully booked. Only after we asked again did she “suddenly” find an available time slot. It felt like if we hadn’t pushed further, we wouldn’t have been told about the opening at all.
Overall, our stay was filled with inconvenience, discomfort, and poor customer service. This hotel may look nice on the outside, but the experience was far from what was promised. We would not recommend it.
