Just spent 5 days at Maya Tropical, came with husband, 4 and 6 yr old. We had a great time! Beautiful, clean, well kept and can always find something good at the buffet! I mostly liked how tropical and caribe felt like one resort. Huge pools, restaurants at the beach, bars, especially liked the kids club. For the first time ever we were able to drop the kids off - 2 hrs once and actually spend some alone time! Shout out to Lulu - she was Soo good with the kids! We also went to the pier to feed the fish every morning! It was never too busy, at the buffet and grill at the beach felt like 50% capacity. There was always space!

I booked a stay at Barceló Maya Tropical, but when I arrived, they switched me to Barceló Maya Beach without any explanation or warning. I showed them my original booking confirmation, but they didn’t care. No apology, no compensation — just a quiet downgrade.
The room wasn’t what I paid for, and they refused to fix it. I had proof — emails, confirmation details, everything — but they acted like it didn’t matter. This wasn’t a mistake, it was intentional.
Barceló clearly plays games with room assignments and hides behind vague policies. If you’re thinking about staying here — don’t. They don’t respect your booking, and they won’t make it right when they mess up. Total scam behavior.

Dinner at the Santa Fe Restaurant, Barcelo Riviera Maya. Our waiter, Jorge Morales was excellent. He was professional, conversational and knowledgeable about the meals available. He made our evening out extremely enjoyable with his service. I would highly recommend.

I was here with my husband for a wedding with a large group of friends a week ago and we had a great time! Overall we loved our stay, beautiful weather, lots of pool activities, you get access to 3 other resorts & beach was lovely. This resort was also really good for nightlife!
Our biggest complaint was the size. This resort was huge and involves a lot of walking. But if you like large resorts you would like this one. Even if your planning on a pool/beach day our group was getting 15,000-20,000 steps a day. I'd also say this is more like a 3.5 star resort just solely by judging the upkeep of the rooms and resort bathrooms. They were a little rundown and older school than other resorts I've seen. And there were some smells around most bathrooms that was consistent.
Overall though this did not ruin our time just trying to give an honest review! Some of these things don't bother most people so don't let these comments sway you from booking. We had a wonderful week!

While on our honeymoon, my husband and I got in late our first night and didn’t have dinner reservations & Jorge Morales made sure we got dinner that night. We just came back for our second steak meal this trip and had the same fantastic meal (rib eye!) and great service. We definitely want to eat here again and would ask for Jorge to be our waiter every time!
