It’s a huge hotel so don’t expect personal service, you’re pretty much just a room number. Staff often seem uninformed and not particularly interested in helping. Food is average and the rooms are fine but nothing special.
On the bright side, there’s plenty to do, especially for kids. Lots of pools, slides, basketball courts and other activities. The beach is a real highlight with beautiful white sand and a great place to relax.
Overall it’s an okay spot for a family holiday, but nothing really stands out.

We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Jorge at Santa Fe Steakhouse during our stay at the Barcelo Maya Resort, and he truly made our dining experience unforgettable. From the moment we were seated, Jorge greeted us with a warm, genuine smile and immediately made us feel welcomed and taken care of.
His attentiveness, professionalism, and friendly demeanor stood out right away. He anticipated our needs before we even had to ask and provided thoughtful recommendations that perfectly matched our tastes. The food was fantastic, but Jorge’s exceptional service elevated the entire evening to a whole new level.

I’m very confused on the amazing reviews. The restaurants were always booked. The day I arrived, most of the restaurants we wanted to dine at were booked for our entire stay. The buffet food was under seasoned and extremely basic. The rooms are dated. No smart tvs. Dated furniture. Dirty curtains. Again just confused on the rave reviews. Wouldn’t recommend or stay here again.

We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Eduardo Balam during our stay at the Barcelo Tropical buffet, and we cannot say enough wonderful things about him. From the very first meal, Eduardo made our family feel so welcomed and cared for that we immediately requested to sit in his section for every dinner.
He went above and beyond to take care of every single one of our requests, always with a warm smile and incredible attention to detail. What stood out the most was the special care he gave to our two children, aged 8 and 4. Eduardo treated them with such kindness and patience, making sure they had everything they needed and even anticipating their requests before they asked.
Because of Eduardo, every meal felt like a special experience. His exceptional service, professionalism, and genuine warmth made our vacation truly unforgettable. We are so grateful to him and highly recommend requesting Eduardo’s section if you have the opportunity. He is truly one of a kind!

This hotel was truly amazing. I have finally found an all inclusive that I will keep returning to. Every single restaurant was amazing. The buffet was also delicious. We were never disappointed by the food. Every staff member that we spoke to was so kind. We had an issue with our AC on night 3 and they quickly changed our room so we had no complaints about the situation. There are so many activities to do at the hotel! They have a bowling alley, a small rock climbing wall, 18 mini golf, a club, a mall, go karts, an escape room, a haunted house. We were never bored! We also did the flotation experience at the spa which included a massage and it was very relaxing and the best massage I’ve ever gotten thanks to my masseuse Maki! It was also so easy to get reservations at the restaurants, even the same day. On our last day, we had reservations at the Santa Fe steak house restaurant and it was amazing. The steak was so well cooked, definitely top 3 steaks I’ve ever had. Luz was such a great hostess and was so attentive. I can’t wait to return and I’m counting down the days. This place was heaven on Earth.
