The hotel itself is stunning – truly breathtaking when you arrive. Facilities are beautiful and spotless, housekeeping is excellent, and both food & beverage are of a very high standard. Staff are kind and welcoming.
However, two areas fell far below the 5-star level:
• Entertainment Team: While the team is friendly, the activities I attended felt unprofessional and unprepared. For example, during a stretching class, the instructor was simply following a YouTube video instead of leading the session with proper knowledge and technique. In the aqua dance class, the lack of rhythm and repetitive steps made the experience feel improvised rather than engaging. I believe a stronger focus on assigning the right staff to the right activities would significantly enhance guest satisfaction.
• Spa: Unfortunately, the massage facilities was the weakest point of my stay. No personal consultation, no questions about health or needs, just a robotic protocol delivered with little care or skill. The massage itself was rough, impersonal, and far from relaxing. Overall, it felt like a basic massage parlor, not at the level of a 5 star hotel, and it does not match the otherwise excellent standards of the hotel. If I was the GM of this hotel, I would be embarrassed to have this kind of service in my facilites.

Beautiful hotel but that's all there is. Housekeeping ignored 'do not disturb' multiple times. Waking us up the first few days, what the ...? There is a lot of noise from other guests which is easy to hear through the walls and ceiling. The beds move easily in every room which also creates a lot of noise every morning. Maybe invest in some rubber mats?A lot of crying, annoying children. The toilet paper unfortunately is as thin as a needle. We had a third party member in our bathroom for the whole vacation, a cockroach.
I have visited a 5 star hotel which had a lot more personal attention than Baobab. This is basicly a mass tourist resort with nice looking buildings and swimming pools. Not coming back.

This resort is absolutely stunning — beautifully designed with a unique African theme that sets it apart from any other place we’ve stayed. The attention to detail in the architecture and landscaping creates a luxurious, tropical atmosphere that’s both relaxing and exciting. The rooms were spacious, spotless and very comfortable. The food was excellent, with a wide variety of options at the buffet. Everything was fresh, tasty and well-presented. The pools and common areas were always clean and inviting, and there was always something to do - whether you wanted to relax with a drink, explore the grounds, or head out to the nearby beach or local attractions. The staff was also amazing. Every team member we encountered - from the front desk to the restaurant staff to the housekeeping team - was warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming.

The hotel from a far looks beautiful, beautifully themed with many pools. Unfortunately the closer you get you see that it's not what it seems. The hotel needs a big a refurbishment, from the rooms to the outside facilities. The pools for example aren't in very good shape. Many tiles from the bottom of the pools are missing, means there's bits of pool floor at the bottom. Not to mention all the bits of trees and plants floating on the water surface. As for the rooms, we had to change due to having an eggy smelly room and no wifi (needed with kids). There is no separate bathroom, it's just a shower screen and a toilet with a door opposite. This means that when you come out of the shower, you need to get changed in an open area which can be awkward if travelling with children. The shower towels they provide you with are seem old and rough. The night entertainment was very average, as was entertainment for kids. Now comes the food. Unfortunately I had food poisoning whilst at the hotel. I know I had it there as I only ate at the hotel, they refuse to believe me which has left me with a very negative view of the hotel. Whilst I was (very) sick, I didn't get much help from the receptionist. She basically told us to get to a local hospital and showed little empathy. Not a very good experience at all for a 5 star hotel. I would never go there again, or use the hotel chain either.

As a frequent traveler and advisor who has visited hotels worldwide, I had high expectations for this stay. It was meant to be my birthday trip, and I brought along my sister—recovering from a serious accident—and her two children. Prior to arrival, I contacted the hotel, explained our situation, and was kindly assured that we would receive a quiet room and likely a complimentary suite upgrade so my sister could rest. Sadly, none of this was honored.
Upon arrival, the reception staff had no knowledge of the promises made. No upgrade, no special arrangements, nothing noted in our booking. Early check-in was denied despite my prior request. At lunch, we were even refused entry because we had no room card yet, and only after going back to reception for a paper “permit” were we finally allowed in. The dining experience itself was chaotic: constant interruptions, immediate payment demands—even while eating—and an overall lack of professionalism. The buffet was disappointing, with very poor selection and quality far below five-star standards.
When we finally received our room, it was the smallest, darkest option imaginable, with extra beds squeezed in. To make matters worse, it was directly above the stage, where loud music played until midnight—making it impossible for my sister to rest or for the children to sleep. Every promise made prior to arrival was broken.
The resort also promotes an uncomfortable “two-class” system: “Unique Club” guests with bright orange wristbands and towels, reserved pool areas, and special treatment, while others are left with visibly less. The evening entertainment was equally embarrassing, with shows so poor that even the children walked away.
While the grounds themselves are beautiful and the potential is there, everything else felt like a money-making exercise rather than hospitality. The price-to-value ratio is unacceptable, and I would never return. My recommendation: look elsewhere if you want a true five-star experience.
