We had never been to the hotel or Torremillinos before, and this was an unplanned, quick few nights abroad. We were absolutely delighted with everything about it, and by the end of the first day, we had said we would definitely return, something we have never said about anywhere.
Many people have criticised the rooms, and we can only speak for hours. The decor was quite dark but very Andalusian and Moroccan in many ways. We loved it. Our view was not great, but that didn't bother us because we were never there. The over-bath shower was more than big enough and was fitted as opposed to being loose, with the bath being the primary function. It also had a fixed wall handle, which is highly unusual and a welcome addition at outreach. The toiletries provided above the basin and bath were excellent. Room service was excellent and the rooms were thoroughly cleaned and remade daily. We were right opposite the lift on the first floor and wondered if we would have any noise or interruption, but there was virtually nothing.
The food was lovely and made even better by chefs at the hot counter cooking at least part of the meal for each patron and each portion. I have seen bigger selections, though that is not a criticism. There was more than enough variety and quantity, and what we had was delicious. The staff were attentive, quick and polite. Although the tables are set up with full white linen and the chairs dressed as if at a wedding or function, don't be put off. It's all very informal and friendly. You can't just show your key at the entry; you'll have to take the paper folder it comes in with the room number on it.
Evening entertainment is provided daily except for Monday and Tuesday, and while it was not overly exciting or invigorating, it was perfectly satisfactory. You have to remember that the vast majority of guests are middle-aged or older.
The outside or spectacular. Walking through the hotel to the back, you come across a big pool with loungers surrounding it, though not too many that are cramped.
Immediately to the side of that is an extensive green grass-effect area with loungers ready to be placed. If you want a little more peace and quiet, it might be better than the pool.
If you imagine walking past the pool, beyond it, down a private path, is the public thoroughfare, which in itself leads immediately onto the beach. You can walk quite a distance both left and right. There are shops and eateries. The sand on the beach is very clean. The beach is huge, with more than enough room for, I would imagine, many people. We enjoyed strolling in the evening and sitting on the beach.
Don't stay here if you're looking for five stars with every amenity under the sun or a hotel aimed at very young families with a kids club and lots of toys and activities for young children. For anybody else, I'd say go for it. Look past the dark interiors of the rooms and corridors and accept the Andalusian style.
We will return in the future.

Safe is paid for, not free. Room and furniture straight out of the 1990s, view of the bins is okay, WiFi is terrible, not reliable, keeps disconnecting and is slow when it does work! Signal is not that strong either regardless of where you are in the hotel, however the breakfast is good if you avoid the scrambled eggs as they’re a bit rubbery

Room very dated and careworn desperate for brightening up.
Beds awful like sleeping on a diving board .. hard and very bouncy.
However the hotel is immaculately clean, spotless in fact . A credit to the staff who actually do the hard work ..not the men in suits ! Also the pool area is fantastic , again down to the guys who do the daily hard work out there
Would definitely go again but Watch out for those beds :)

This is a very nice hotel we enjoyed the food and the location is perfect. The room was good and everything was immaculately maintained. We have noticed over recent years that the area, La Carihuela, which used to be fairly quiet has become more and more popular with Dutch people and most guests were indeed middle aged Dutch people. Few children, but not quite adults only.

We booked a double superior room with a front sea view, expecting comfort and quality, but what we got was far from it. The room felt like something out of a horror movie—on the second floor but felt like the first. The walls were yellowed and stained, giving the whole place a dirty, run-down feel. The bed was uneven, making it nearly impossible to get a good night’s sleep. To make matters worse, there was a loose socket with exposed wires hanging out of the wall, which was a serious safety concern.
We brought these issues to the attention of the reception staff, hoping to move to a better room. However, they told us it wasn’t worth it because all the rooms were in a similar state, which was incredibly disappointing. The room looked nothing like the photos on the hotel website, and the overall quality was shocking for the price.
Overall: Our stay at Amaragua was far from enjoyable, and the price-to-quality ratio was poor. Unless you have no other option and don’t mind compromising on comfort and safety, I wouldn’t recommend staying here
