Ona Alborada is one of the nicer hotels in the Las Galletas area. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations, so expect some construction noise during the day. While the rooms are comfortable and recently renovated, the exterior of the hotel looks rather shabby.
The hotel staff are very kind and helpful. It’s clear that many of the issues are due to infrastructure problems, which are beyond their control. One such issue was the presence of cockroaches. On our second evening, we discovered a large cockroach on the kitchen counter. Moments later, when we lifted the toaster, six more—two large and four medium-sized—scurried out from underneath. We managed to kill one and immediately reported the incident to the receptionist. His initial response—laughter, a reference to the song "La Cucaracha," a shrug, and a can of bug spray—was disappointing, as no room change or real assistance was offered at the time. However, the following morning, we requested a room change again and were thankfully given a new room. As a kind gesture, we also received a bottle of wine, which we really appreciated. Fortunately, aside from one cockroach in the bathroom, the rest of our stay was peaceful. We bought cockroach killing bait in order to be safe. We were bitten by bedbugs a couple nights, so keep that in mind.
It’s worth noting that cockroaches are a common insect on the island, so occasional sightings may be unavoidable.
The rooms are clean and modern, though the bathroom’s air-drying system doesn’t work—leaving the door open helps prevent mold. The pool area is cozy and a good place to relax. However, the water was quite dirty despite the staff’s ongoing efforts to clean it. Many locals seem to use the pool as well, making it feel more like a public facility than a private amenity for hotel guests. The pool is only open from 10:00 to 18:00. We were told this is not a hotel-specific rule but rather an island-wide regulation, which seems to be standard practice in this region.
The spa area next to the pool is currently a large construction site, which affects the overall atmosphere. Additionally, there is no free luggage storage available—you must pay if you want to leave your bags after checkout. Cleaning service is only offered once per week, and not at all if your stay is shorter than seven days. You can only check in at 16:00 and must leave before 10.
All in all, it wasn’t a bad stay. 5/10.

Don’t judge a book by its cover
First impressions can be deceiving. As we disembarked from the bus, my initial thought was, "I hope that's not our hotel." There's an English saying, "fur coat and no knickers," but this hotel was more like a duffel coat and Marks and Spencer undies. While the exterior may look unassuming, the interior tells a different story.
The hotel has recently been renovated, featuring new kitchenettes, bathrooms, and furniture in the rooms. It's a classic case of not judging a book by its cover.
One of the highlights was the massive saltwater swimming pool. Although the water was cool, it was perfect for swimming enthusiasts. To give you an idea of its size, five circuits of the pool amount to approximately 1 km.
there is some building work ongoing near the pool due to the refurbishment and the numatic drill can be noisy but as the saying goes you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.
We had an enjoyable stay here and used it as a base to explore the area. We ventured into Los Cristianos, and to be honest, we couldn’t get back to the hotel quickly enough.
Once the refurbishment has been completed I would give it 4 stars.

The hotel has bad marks but if you check most of the bad reviews are old and good ones are recent.
We stayed 3 nights there. Very nice facilities, lobby, friendly staff, nice pool area with sea view.
If I have to find some minor problems : they were not able to extend our stay because they seem to have an archaic electronic system unable to add one night to an existing booking and requiring new booking of minimum 2 nights...
Also, an access to the beach would be nice rather than turn around the whole building.
But globally a nice place for a good price.

We had an extremely distressing and unacceptable experience at Ona Alborada.
After returning from Mount Teide around 1am, we found a cockroach in our room. My girlfriend has a severe phobia of cockroaches, so I went to reception. There was no staff present, only a security guard who gave me a can of insecticide spray and asked me to kill it myself.
I sprayed where the cockroach had run behind the wall-mounted kitchen cabinet and noticed cockroach faeces along with a foil-sealed edge, a plastic bag, and even a thermos lodged behind it. The cockroach jumped out and I killed it, returning it to the guard as evidence. He told me to keep the spray in case more appeared.
Shortly after, we saw a second cockroach which wouldn’t die even after extensive spraying. It crawled back behind the wall. Later, it reappeared and we killed it with a shoe. A third cockroach emerged in the kitchen. I sprayed heavily even over our toaster, soup, and bread in a desperate attempt to kill it. It escaped behind the fridge and was never found. We lost our food and slept with the lights on, barely getting any rest.
At 9am, we reported everything to reception. Cleaners were sent and did a basic surface clean: they mopped the floors and wiped the counters, but did not clean or inspect inside or behind any appliances, nor did they remove the droppings, foil, plastic, or thermos behind the wall cabinet. We were in the room during the clean, so we know that this was the only cleaning that occurred.
We contacted our booking agent, sent photo evidence, and were told the hotel had promised a “deep clean” would be completed within two hours. When we returned, reception falsely told us it had already been done but the same mess remained. We showed them new photos and, after waiting 45 minutes, we were moved to a different room of the same layout.
The staff were eventually apologetic, but:
- We were left to deal with cockroaches ourselves
- They lied about cleaning
- There is clearly an ongoing infestation
This wasn’t a one-off. We found other reviews reporting similar issues. Until the hotel commits to a full pest control overhaul, I strongly recommend avoiding this place if you care about cleanliness, health, or basic hospitality standards.

We have been coming to Tenerife for many years and always walked past this hotel. This time we decided to stay and I'm so glad we did. The hotel is under renovation but the rooms are beautiful. I was very impressed with everything, a lot of work going on to make things even better so expect some noise, I'm looking forward to stopping again soon. Thank you.
