This hotel is absolutely not a 5-star experience. From start to finish, the stay was extremely disappointing.
The staff were rude and unhelpful.
The room looked nothing like the pictures – very old, poorly maintained, and full of dysfunctions.
The air conditioning didn’t work and we had to call maintenance.
The bathrobe was old and smelled horrible.
The extra bed for the third person was basically unusable – just a thin sponge mattress on a folding metal frame, impossible to sleep on comfortably.
The light switches in the room didn’t work properly when we arrived, so we had no light in the bathroom for a while.
In the bathroom, water leaked from the bottom of the tub, flooding the entire bathroom after every shower.
On the beach, there was even a day with a shortage of towels due to “laundry issues,” meaning another unnecessary wait for something as basic as a towel.
Overall, the waiting time for everything was extremely long – service, requests, even basic needs.
I honestly cannot understand how this place calls itself a 5-star hotel. It was one of the worst experiences, and I would never recommend it.

Great hotel , worth the price , great food , big room , amazing view from the balcony. It was really crowded and loud, but we found our peace in the early breakfast and dinner , and going to the beach in the early morning and at sunset. The sunsets are amazing.

Second and last stay at this hotel, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience.
We booked a suite for extra comfort, but upon arrival, we found that the air conditioning wasn’t working. A technician came twice, yet the issue was never resolved, and we were moved to another room only after two days.
In the new room, the bathroom lights didn’t work. Despite several reminders, nothing was done to fix them.
For a supposed 5-star hotel, the service is far from the standard. Staff do the bare minimum, and during our 10-day stay, our room was cleaned only 7 times—apparently due to a shortage of housekeeping staff.
The food was acceptable but nothing special. Everything was consistently overcooked, especially the meat, often to the point of being burnt.
To cut costs, the hotel mostly hires students with little to no experience, which shows in the quality of service.
In short, for such a high price, this hotel is simply not worth it. It’s outdated, poorly maintained, and doesn’t even deserve 4 stars.

DEFINITELY NOT A 5 STAR RESORT
This gives the feel of a resort that was once upon a time 5 star resort.
I’ve had the pleasure of staying in numerous 5 star resorts, unfortunately this one is at the bottom of the list. This didn’t mean it was a terrible stay, it’s just not 5 stars. I think they need to adjust this marketing in order to avoid people being disappointed.
PROS:
- Most of the staff were very polite and helpful
- The pool and beach area are lovely
- We had no issues with room service, they were always helpful when called (saw reviews where people’s requests were being ignored)
CONS:
- The food, I cannot explain how far away from 5 stars the food is. Least favourite buffet I have encountered unfortunately. We ended up going into town for most meals (even though we had half board) the food in town is delicious and actually makes you feel like you’re in Greece.
- The buffet is also carnage, so many people pushing and shoving you out of the way. It seems they could extend the hours or have other restaurants offering a buffet to rectify this issue. Way too crowded.
- Hotel in general is tired, you can tell the upkeep is neglected on so many areas within the hotel, we were told we could book activities through the app or on the screens around the hotel. None of the screens worked properly and the app didn’t let you book either.
- Some of the activity staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful. We tried to book a restaurant to use our half board, to which we were rudely told no, we need to book 1 day in advance as the restaurant was fully booked and we’d just have to go back to the buffet. We walked past this restaurant and there wasn’t a single table booked. So we asked them for a table and they said not a problem. This was at 6pm, we were there until 7:30pm. Not one other table came during this time when it was apparently ‘fully booked’ It just seemed an unnecessary lie and control complex by the staff member - not 5 star behaviour.
- It seems you can smoke anywhere, I’ve never been to a 5 star hotel that allows this, normally there should be designated areas. It’s not nice for non smokers and at times felt impossible to avoid.
Another thing to note if you are a couple or solo traveller, kids are everywhere. We saw so many arguments amongst kids and parents, it makes for loud and uncomfortable environment when trying to relax by the pool or beach. Not necessarily a hotel issue, but something to be aware of.
I would say this hotel is more of an upper end of a 3 star experience. Certainly not even close to 5 stars, we left feeling disappointed because of this.

We stayed at Porto Carras Hotel in room 1275, and while there are some positives, unfortunately the negatives far outweigh them.
Positive:
The staff is truly exceptional. From cleaners to kitchen staff, waiters, and receptionists – everyone is polite, hardworking, and at a very high professional level. They were the highlight of our stay.
Negative:
The hotel itself is overpriced and definitely not worthy of a 5-star rating. Our room, overlooking the fountain and mountains, had visible issues: rust had formed on the bathtub drain, the first stream of water from the tap always came out yellow, the panel above the bed was broken, and cracks were visible all over the walls.
On the beach, there are not enough showers, and the beach bar and towel service only open at 10 AM – so if you come earlier, you don’t have access to either. There is only one toilet for the entire beach, which is unacceptable.
Inside the hotel, the second-floor corridor constantly smelled terrible because of leaking air conditioning units dripping onto the carpet. Thankfully, our room was not close to it, but it was unbearable when passing by.
Breakfast and dinner feel like a public canteen. If you don’t arrive early, the overcrowding makes eating uncomfortable. The staff, as hard as they try, simply cannot keep up with cleaning tables, leaving many sticky and dirty. The children’s chairs were always filthy – we had to clean them ourselves with wet wipes every single time before placing our child in one.
Overall:
For the price paid, all of this is unacceptable. The hotel trades on its name and location, but the facilities, maintenance, and dining experience are nowhere near 5-star standards.
