Showing its age. Rooms are dated and show the time. For example, the elevator in our building never worked, the room door had to be jiggled hard to lock, and the jacuzzi on the balcony (we paid for the upgrade) only ran cool water. Still, the room was good for the price. Pool was nice, though suitable, at 1.2M depth, for children only. Food was plentiful, though also consistently bland, barring the Mexican-themed restaurant. Beach was too seaweed-covered for swimming.
Saving grace was the staff - always helpful, always going out of their way to assist, always ready with a 'hola'. Gardens were lovely and well-kept.

We recently spent 10 days at this resort. We read a lot of negative reviews after we booked and got a little nervous. Once we arrived we were greeted by wonderful staff who treated us great for our entire stay. Food was excellent. Drinks were plentiful and always delicious. Resort was clean and maintenance staff were always busy fixing any issues. The lagoon just a short 10 minute walk down the beach was excellent for swimming in and there were always plenty of colourful fish that could be seen swimming around you. We all had a fantastic time and will 100% return in the future.

My stay at Hotel New Blue Grand Esmeralda, Mexico, was disappointing in several aspects.
Despite being advertised as a five-star hotel, the experience fell short. During my stay, the hotel beach was full of seaweed, making it impossible to enjoy. Additionally, while some staff members were helpful, others seemed uninterested in fulfilling our requests.
We faced three consecutive days without hot water, which is unacceptable for an establishment that claims to be of quality. Furthermore, noise in the rooms was excessive, disturbing our peace and comfort during the stay.
We were also frustrated with the lack of consideration for our requests. It seemed like our concerns were not taken seriously, and there was no real effort to resolve the issues we faced.
Another negative point was the restrictive policy regarding transfers. We were not allowed to be picked up by our transfers within the hotel, causing inconvenience and discomfort.Despite the food and drink being of good quality, the lack of variety in the themed restaurants left much to be desired. The hotel facilities also did not meet expectations.
The spa was frequently closed, and the gym did not offer adequate conditions, such as cold water for showering. Even the complimentary post-check-out shower was cold.
Overall, my experience at Hotel New Blue Grand Esmeralda was quite disappointing. It did not live up to the standards one would expect from a five-star establishment. I hope these issues are addressed to ensure a more satisfying stay for future guests.

Great location. Probably some of the friendliest staff we’ve ever interacted with at a resort. Everyone seems happy to be there, so someone at the top is doing something right. The room is a little tired. This is definitely not a five star resort any more. The theatre is really just a room with chairs in it. Not very “Grand” any more. The food is very good at the buffet. Lots of options for everyone - nice things for the little ones - little boxes of cereal, French fries and hot dogs. French, Mexican and Italian were our favourite specialty restaurants. The staff work very hard in the restaurants. One thing that was disappointing was the severe lack of loungers by the quiet pool AND the beach. It felt like the hunger games for beach chairs. I got up
At 6:30 one morning to try and score some chairs, but there were towels on every chair by that time. I spoke with someone later, and he said he was getting up at 5:15 and there were chairs available then. Forget that! I’m not getting up at 5:15 on holiday for the privilege of a lounger. People we spoke with who have been here before last year felt that there were half the number of chairs. Also many of the chairs need to be replaced. This is a huge issue. If I was managing this resort, it would be the FIRST thing I would fix. We are here for three weeks, and enjoying everything else - but trying to lounge by the pool and beach has been stressful.

I just returned home a week ago from BlueBay, overall a great experience! Staff was great and for the most part very helpful, food was definitely better then i anticipated, and the grounds were gorgeous and well kept. The rooms are definitely outdated and tired but our room was clean and comfortable, the jacuzzi tub on the balcony unfortunately did not have very warm water running to it so that was a bit disappointing. If you are an ocean enthusiast this is definitely NOT the resort for you, ocean front there was essentially unusable, there is a beautiful lagoon not far from the resort (about a 7 minute walk) and it is breath taking! And directly to the right (a different resort) their waterfront was beautiful. Overall a great experience, of course there's things that could be updated and tweaked but no major complaints (in my experience)
