Soma Bay

Soma Bay is an exclusive peninsula in the Red Sea, close to Hurghada, offering holidays that are all about decadence and luxury. The peninsula is only 5km long by 2km wide. In fact, the private, gated road that is only the entrance to the peninsula is longer than the whole of Soma Bay, at 7km.

As a peninsula, Soma Bay is completely surrounded by the sea, making it a great destination for a beach holiday. Being a peninsula means that diving is very accessible on here as there is no need to swim out far to reach open water.

Soma Bay is an upmarket area and choses to promote itself as such. The hotels are all owned by up market chains, such as Sheraton. There is also a full sized, 18 hole, 72 par golf course and academy, designed by legendary golfer Gary Player, that the resorts share between them. Because of this Soma Bay may not be ideal for the 18-30 crowd but if you enjoying relaxing and being a little pampered whilst away then this might be just what you need.

Soma Bay benefits from the lovely year round weather that most Egyptian holiday resorts boast:

  • The coldest months are January and February at 11°C at night and up to 22°C in the day.
  • March jumps up considerably to 14-25°C.
  • April makes a similar jump to 18-28°C.
  • In May the temperatures break through their personal barriers to reach 21-31°C.
  • June and July have similar temperatures at 24-33°C.
  • August is the peak of the hot months at 26-34°C.
  • September and October begin the cooling down phase, lowering to 21-32°C.
  • The temperature finally sinks below the barriers they crossed in May by November at 16-27°C.
  • Finally December brings the temperature full circle at 12-23°C.

Soma Bay holidays are a hit with golfers, thanks to an 18 hole, 72 par golf course designed by the legendary Gary Player. The course is a great way to wile away an afternoon by playing a round and even non golfers can get involved as attached to the course is the Cascades Golf Academy, where beginners can be taught the basics as well as be given their handicap so that they can compete with their more experienced friends.

The clear waters coupled with the isolated nature of a peninsula means that you don’t have to go too far out from the island to reach diveable depths whilst having a high chance of crossing paths with some interesting sea life.

Windsurfing and Kitesurfing are both very popular activities here due to the pleasant Red Sea waters. Beginners need not worry about missing out too as 7BTF, the largest kitesurfing school in Egypt is located on the peninsula. At 7BTF highly professional instructors use state of the art video and headset technology to support your learning.

If you are looking for a more relaxing experience during your holiday in Soma Bay then the Les Thermes Marins des Cascades Spa and Thalasso Centre may be just up your street. The Spa focuses on using the healing properties of mineral rich seawater and seaweed to promote good health and combat toxins.
