Venice Valentine’s Breaks and Holidays

Cobbled streets, cosy cafes, striking landmarks and, of course, glistening canals - Venice is truly one of the most romantic places in the world. So it will come as no surprise that this unique Italian city is a popular choice for romantic holidays. In fact, with average flight times from the UK being around two and a half hours, Venice is the perfect place for couples to enjoy Valentine’s weekend breaks.

To help you plan your Valentine’s Day holiday to Venice, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite romantic things to do in the floating city.

Romantic things to do in Venice

Gondola Ride

No Valentine’s Day holiday to Venice would be complete without a ride on one of the world-famous gondolas. These long boats have been a staple of Venetian culture for centuries, and a ride on one of these is the perfect way to spend some quality time with your other half.

Top Tip: the gondolas that dock off St Peter’s square are gorgeous, but they also tend to be more expensive. For a more budget-friendly option, take a romantic stroll off the beaten track and deeper into the city. Here you’ll find beautiful gondola rides at a fraction of the price they charge in the tourist-focused areas.

St Mark’s Square

St Mark’s Square is arguably the most famous spot in Venice. With the gorgeous Campanile Bell Tower standing tall over the city, and the absolutely breathtaking Basilica providing the perfect backdrop, you’ll fall in love with this area of Venice. The bell tower offers amazing views across the city and is relatively cheap (€8 per ticket) to enter for what awaits you at the top.

Top Tip: To avoid the crowds, we recommend getting to St Mark’s Square early. Plan to get here early enough, and you could even be lucky enough to have this wonderful part of the world all to yourselves for a moment!

Dine with a canal view

One of the most wonderful things about Italy is the food, and here in Venice you’ll be treated to mouthwatering pastas, cheeses and fresh seafood caught from the Adriatic that very day. For an authentic Venetian experience, choose one of the restaurants with a terrace by the Grand Canal. This way you’ll get to enjoy a romantic meal together, whilst avoiding the hustle and bustle of the city.

Explore!

One of the charms of Venice is the endless streets to explore, you will always find something new that grabs your attention. The city can be easily navigated on foot, and it is always worth exploring due to the wonders that lie in wait for you: from charming, traditional Italian coffee shops to the splendid world around the Grand Canal - it will leave you speechless.
