I honestly don’t even know where to begin with this “hotel.” The check-in process is a disaster, even the so-called premium check-in takes hours, and our room wasn’t ready until well after 4 p.m. When I finally lost my patience, the front desk agent sarcastically says, “Since you’re desperate,” and hands me the most disgusting room I’ve ever seen.
The bedroom light doesn’t work. The shower is filthy, covered in mold, with no hot water, barely any pressure, and no towels all day. After complaining three times, they finally bring some towels. The AC barely cools the room, and the pool area is just as bad, with tiles full of mold, the towel center always out of towels, and when they do have them, they’re clearly reused. The pool bar offers cheap, watered-down drinks, and the pool itself is overrun by locals, not hotel guests.
The staff has absolutely no sense of customer service. They treat you how I imagine they treat their locals, with zero respect, no boundaries, and often rude or downright invasive.
The restaurants are no better. Menus are extremely limited, and the floors are slick with water and grease, making it unsafe. At breakfast, we try the buffet, and everything is disgusting. A bird is literally pecking at the food and doing what birds do. When I alert the staff, their response is, “Yeah, we know. He’s another staff member.” No shame, no corrective action. This morning, we had a tour scheduled for 7 a.m., but half of the buffet was closed until that exact time, making the already limited options even worse for guests with early tours.
This is hands down the most stressful and disappointing vacation I’ve ever had. Between the filthy conditions, awful food, nonexistent service, and constant frustration, I have no idea how this place has 4.5 stars. Either the reviews are fake, or they’re written by locals trying to boost it.
Avoid this place at all costs.

My family and I had the worst experience at this resort from the moment we arrived. When we checked into our first room, the phone was not working. I reported it to the staff, but nothing was done until the third time I complained, and only then did they move us to another room.
Unfortunately, things did not improve. We started seeing cockroaches in the room. I reported this to our butler, and the cleaning service did come to clean and spray. I thought that would solve the issue, but two days before leaving, I found another cockroach in the bathroom, and later that same day, my daughter found another one. At that point, we just wanted to go home.
The food was also terrible. The only restaurant that served decent food was the Dominican cuisine restaurant. Everywhere else, the food was disappointing and not worth it.
Overall, this was a horrible experience for my family. Between the broken amenities, cockroach problem, and poor food quality, I would absolutely not recommend this resort to anyone.

I had a really good stay here. The rooms were clean, staff members were extremely friendly, and the food was really good. There was alot of variety too. The beach was also wonderful and wasn’t crowded at all when I was there, so it was always easy finding a chair. They also put on events that were really fun like the pool parties on Saturdays. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Review for Occidental Caribbean Hotel
I recently stayed at the Occidental Caribbean and had two rooms booked: an ocean view (Room 3327) and a garden view. Unfortunately, both rooms had issues with the keys not working properly, which caused unnecessary frustration. However, the main problem was with Room 3327.
Check-in was supposed to be at 3:00 PM, but we experienced a delayed check-in without any clear communication or updates. After finally getting into Room 3327, we found that the bed configuration was completely wrong — I had specifically requested two queen beds and instead received one king. To make matters worse, the AC wasn't working, and neither was the phone, making it extremely difficult to reach the front desk for assistance.
I made multiple trips downstairs to resolve the issue. The only solution offered was a rollaway bed, as no rooms with two queen beds were available. That rollaway bed didn’t even arrive until close to 10:00 PM — after a long day of travel, this was completely unacceptable. Throughout the entire process, I never once saw a supervisor step in to manage the situation or ensure that guests were being taken care of. The front desk showed a serious lack of communication, follow-up, and professionalism.
This was extremely disappointing, especially considering how great other areas of the hotel were. The culinary team was outstanding — from the buffets to the specialty restaurants, the food and service were exceptional. The entertainment and daily activities were also well-organized and enjoyable.
In short: the check-in process and room experience were frustrating and poorly handled, but the dining and activities teams went above and beyond. I hope hotel management takes a serious look at improving front desk service and accountability.

I approached the Occidental Caribe Resort, I had high hopes as I went to an Occidental Resort back in 2024 and had a great time there. We checked in, then later went to our room to settle in. It seemed mediocre at first, but as we looked around the room, we noticed a few things. First we've seen that the bathroom was dirty, and missing towels in the room. We went to the front desk to discuss the issue with the receptionist, she gave my parents and I a nasty look. We received a new key for a new room, when we went to check the room with another hotel staff, we thought it was fine once again. We noticed that the safe was not usable, and the balcony door lock was broken. When we got our third room, it was the best one we have gotten, but... the cord of one of the lamps in the room was taped together, and the closet door doesn't slide smoothly as you would expect it to. Out of three of the rooms that we checked into, the air conditioning unit was not working, which is a problem as it gets really humid in Punta Cana. This is the best room that you would get for a standard room. In terms of service, it wasn't the best. As I previously stated I had an issue regarding my room, they weren't taking this situation greatly, they would often look at you weird, like you are the one doing something wrong, even though it is not. Often at food establishments you would be directed to your seat, they would rudely hand you the menu and you would have to direct yourself to your own table. There are many better options for resorts in the Punta Cana area, don't come here if you expect a great experience.
