I recently stayed at the Westin Dragonara in Malta and had a mixed experience.
The hotel itself is beautiful and offers true 5-star amenities. The property is well maintained, the breakfast buffet was very nice with a good variety, and the location is excellent—close to nightlife, restaurants, and entertainment. Having the casino right next door is also a plus for those who enjoy that.
However, the biggest downside was the lack of individual air conditioning control. The hotel operates on a central system that switches between heat or AC depending on the season. During our stay, it was warm during the day, but AC was not available. We were advised to open the balcony doors for ventilation, which was not a realistic solution due to constant noise from children screaming at the pool below noted the entire day. This made it very difficult to sleep comfortably or even feel like the room was breathable.
We were later told that only luxury suites have proper air conditioning control, which is disappointing for a hotel of this caliber.
Overall, while the hotel delivers on amenities, location, and service, I would rate it closer to a 4-star experience due to the inability to sleep comfortably and the lack of climate control in standard rooms. If you’re sensitive to noise or heat, I strongly recommend booking a luxury suite—or considering another property.

From the minute of walking through the door of this wonderful hotel we knew that we were in for an incredible Christmas.
Our rooms, on the 7th floor, were scrupulously clean and very well maintained. Every morning at breakfast we were greeted as though we were family, and shown to a nice quiet area. We were spoiled by the on-site dinning experience (some were seasonal and therefore not open), the quality and selection represented outstanding value, and again the service in all locations was exemplary. we enjoyed the experience for lunch, snacks, and dinner from the entire team in the ORVM Lounge, the food and staff at Palio were just the most fun, and a special call-out to Harish, the sommelier at Quadro where we enjoyed a dinner easily matching that of some Michelin Star restaurants that we frequent at home.
The entire experience provided by ALL staff at this hotel was simply outstanding and helped us create wonderful memories and a new beginning for '26.
Thank-you to everyone.

The hotel is luxurious and high-end, and the staff go out of their way to make the experience perfect. They are very helpful and friendly. Our room was spacious and came with a terrace, offering a lovely sea view. The bed was comfortable, though it would be better to have more electric outlets near the bed and desk for charging laptops and phones. The location is convenient, with easy access to the capital or nearby towns via Bolt or Uber, and there’s a restaurant area and shopping mall within walking distance. Overall, a very enjoyable stay!

The staff in particular are so pleasant, helpful, and efficient, in all areas they created the right atmosphere. The half board option worked well for us and the food quality was often remarkable. Rooms, both garden and sea view, were very comfortable, clean and spacious.
My elderly parents loved the hotel and the high quality 13m indoor pool/sauna/steam/jacuzzi. We also found the gym excellent and extensive such that it attracts members, it was really nice to have locals there who would demo unfamiliar equipment etc - the Maltese people really are so positive and nice to be around.
December weather was brilliant and the hotel had a nice festive atmosphere, there was no out of season feel to it. Would definitely recommend and we may well return.
The location of the hotel is highly convenient - 100 metres from the heart of things, but very quiet due to how the area is constructed. Also very quick to get into Valletta, and the ubiquitous Bolt taxis mean that nothing is ever far or a pain to get to. For the winter season this location makes sense as there is a lot to do whatever the weather.

Nice hotel. I wasn’t recognised as a titanium member on arrival, but did get complimentary breakfast and access to the executive lounge, which was very good (snacks and drinks during the day, and a great evening food and drink offering).
The hotel rooms were large and well equipped.
The outdoor pool was very well sized, as the indoor pool (with adjacent: sauna, steam room, jacuzzi).
Breakfast was excellent.
Location was OK.
Definitely a family hotel, would stay here again with the family, but probably not for business.
