After spending a lot of time researching hotels in Malta, we chose the Solana Hotel based on its location, facilities, price, and room photos. Check-in was smooth, and we were quickly given directions to our room.
Unfortunately, the room we were assigned was on level -3 and had no window. The Expedia website described the room as “Internal/no balcony”, but it did not mention that there was no window at all. Since I am claustrophobic, I couldn’t stay in a room without one. I went back to the reception desk to see what could be done, but the only option was to pay an additional €160 to upgrade. After a long negotiation (and with no help from Expedia because it was high season), I managed to get the price down to €100.
Putting that initial issue aside, the hotel itself was incredible. Our new room was spacious and clean, with an extremely comfortable bed and a wonderful shower. The hotel feels new and has excellent facilities, including a gym, a sauna, and multiple swimming pools—the rooftop one was a highlight. The included breakfast was also fantastic, with a wide variety of options. The staff were very helpful throughout our stay.
I would absolutely recommend staying here.

Great place to stay. We stayed on room 1411, which didn't have the best overlooking view, but it was decent enough with partial views over adjacent property/ hotels in the distance. Staff were all very helpful, friendly and polite... From managers down to room cleaners, everyone very pleasant. Nice food served "buffet style" (we did half board) so breakfast and dinner tasted great for us. I would definitely recommend this hotel in Mellieha as it's quiet for such a big hotel.... No noise issues from traffic and rooms seem sound proofed very well.

We enjoyed very much our stay at Solana Hotel 🙂.
The room was spacious, functional and comfortable. The balcony is pleasant.
The 24-hours presence at the reception with friendly, profesional, attentive staff is a plus. Generous buffet breakfast in a large inside/outside space. Also, several restaurants: we have enjoyed twice having dinner at Tosca's, which offers very good quality mediterranean food at very reasonable prices.
Good ambiance at the Top Deck bar, around the swimming-pool, excellent place to have a cocktail (large choice and Happy Hour deal) watching the sunset with a wonderful view of Mellieha's church and bay. A great experience!
Last but not the least, a special thank to Mary who welcomed us, for her kindness, and various useful informations for our stay. And also Holly, Kyal and Andres for the availability and reactivity. Thank you very much to Dawa for his special attention. It was deeply appreciated.
Next time we come to Malta, no doubt we will choose Solana Hotel again. 💝

We have spent our 7 days in quite good comfort. The service was nice and friendly. Room was clean and had much space.
We bought the parking space. From the beginning they gave us some paper to sign that they don’t take responsibility for the car in the parking but as well we needed leave the key in the parking reception. We had noticed that car after first night was moved to another space. We asked nicely that we don’t want them to drive our car as it’s rented and we are responsible for that and just my husband is allowed to drive and what if someone just scratch it during moving the car. In reception they said that that the policy is like that that they need to move cars from time to time and never happed that someone damaged any car from the stuff. What a solution they gave us was to refund money for parking but then we need to take a car and to park somewhere else. So just be careful with that subject.
And I am adding laundry prices in one of the pics ( price per item so in my opinion expensive) as prices in other places was cheaper.
Similar in the hotel massages prices nearly double €75( price in promotion) regular price €95 ( for 1h), we paid € 45 outside for 1h either🫶

The hotel left us with mixed impressions. On the one hand, it looks modern and tidy from the outside and is conveniently located — about a 25–30 minute walk from Mellieħa Bay beach. For those who don’t want to walk, there is a bus stop right across the street, and a taxi costs only €5–6, which is very convenient, especially for families with children or heavy luggage.
The kitchen staff and cleaners were wonderful — always polite, friendly, and hardworking. However, the waiters left a negative impression, as they often appeared tired and unfriendly, which affected the overall atmosphere during breakfast.
Our room was spacious, but the wardrobes were not practical at all for a family stay. The balcony was another disappointment: so narrow that two small chairs took up almost all the space. The promised “city view” was actually a view of rooftops and walls of nearby buildings. Because the room received very little sunlight, it was constantly damp — towels never dried, and every morning our clothes felt moist.
The rooftop pool is one of the hotel’s main highlights, offering a beautiful panoramic view. Unfortunately, the experience was spoiled by thick black smoke coming from a nearby chimney, with an unbearable smell similar to burning garbage or rubber.
The most frustrating part of our stay happened on the last night: the fire alarm went off about 15 times. Reception staff told us it was a “false alarm” and that we should just go back to sleep. In the morning, the elevators were out of service, and we had to carry our luggage down the stairs. What shocked us most was that during check-out, no one from the staff even offered a simple apology for the inconvenience. For a hotel of this level, this feels very unprofessional.
Overall, the hotel has potential — it has a modern design, a convenient location, and some great staff members. However, management really needs to work on customer service, staff training, and the small but important details that shape the guest experience.
