The Pestana Ocean Bay All Inclusive Hotel offered us a relaxing atmosphere and beautiful ocean sunset views. My wife and I had a great time there. We spent 7 days there. The food was fresh and delicious. The drinks were good. We especially liked the white wine. The service was also great. Our room was spacious and comfortable with daily sheets changed.

Do not stay at this hotel. 90% of rooms do not have air conditioning. The rooms are worn out and not very clean. No water pressure. Tiny shower/bath with a stained tub. The food is barely edible. The staff working the bars, kitchen, and dining areas are great. They are doing their best with what little they have been given. It was the most miserable 5 days of any vacation I have ever had. We tried to upgrade to a room that has air conditioning and were willing to pay the difference. The room was available for the three days we wanted it for online and could have been booked online for the full amount, but we had already paid for 5 nights and just requested to pay the difference to get some AC. The front desk was not helpful at all and refused to allow us to move rooms.
Location is not great either. Yes, it's on the beach, but you can't go into the water because the surf is too rough. It's a long uphill walk to get to the closest bus stop. The 3 times we ordered a Bolt, they couldn't locate the hotel. It is located right next to a run-down apartment complex.
Entertainment in the evenings was atrocious. It was really like being on a terrible, cheap cruise ship.
Attached screenshot of the room we requested to upgrade into, but received zero help.

I had an amazing stay at this hotel! From the moment I arrived, the welcome was warm and professional. The room was spotless, spacious, and well-equipped, with a very comfortable bed.
The service was outstanding the staff were always friendly, attentive, and ready to help with anything I needed. Breakfast was delicious and offered a great variety of fresh options. The facilities were well-maintained and made the stay even more enjoyable.
The location is perfect close to the main attractions yet peaceful and quiet. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again on my next trip!

Very nice hotel and holiday destination. All the staff are very cheerful and clearly work hard. The 2 pools are great and their are plenty of sun loungers. The beach is adjacent to the hotel (literally 2 meters from rear entrance). The rooms are of a good standard, clean and comfortable. There is no air con but if you leave the balcony door open you get sea breeze all night and the sound of the ocean so that helps with sleeping. Food is standard buffet type meals with a wide variety of choices, but these are replicated most evenings, there doesn't seem to be themed nights so an occasional meal out is essential. Shuttle bus into Funchal centre picks up twice a day for free and there are multiple paid bus links too. It's only 15 mins to get to the city centre and then there is lots to do or any number of trips and excursions you can book. The only downside is the hotel is situated at the bottom of very steep hills on all sides so if you want to walk somewhere local the first 10 mins are quite arduous. The coastal walk is very nice though if you just want a stroll and no hills. There is self service for soft drinks, hot beverages and beer available all day and other drinks can be got from the bar until 11pm.

We had such a great time in this hotel. The location is excellent, all the rooms have the view towards the ocean. The beach is very close, but make sure you bring special shoes for pebbles/stones, it really hurts your feet when going into the ocean.
Listening to the waves at night (and day) is simply divine. They have many flowers and plants, you feel like you are in a garden. The restaurant has tables outside, so you can watch and listen to the ocean while having your meal. Staff are friendly and helpful. There is a jacuzzi, sauna and a hot steam room available every day. Plenty of sun loungers, two pools and a section for little ones. You can always find a space. A peaceful and quiet place. The only minus would be the quality of the drinks, if they could be a little better, it would be great. And a clothes rack on the balcony to dry your towels and clothes after a pool/beach day. The whole island is very beautiful, we hope we'll come back some day.
