What a lovely hotel. We went with a group of golfers and all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nice breakfast with plenty of options. Nice size rooms, well maintained.
Would definitely recommend.

Customer service ruins this promising hotel. Rooms are clean and reception is well appointed. But everything is hassle and hard work. WiFi is patching. Room keys keep failing. Queues for breakfast, queues for pool access. Reception fobs you off rather than seeking solutions. If you set your expectations to low, might be worth a stay but at nearly £150 per night I would have expected better. I’ll never come back - feeling sad that I stayed this time.

Visited here for our summer holiday and overall had a really good stay.
Staff were lovely and always happy to help, and the hotel/rooms were immaculate – constantly being cleaned throughout the day which was great to see.
We’re a couple with no kids and for us it was ideal, but if you do have children you’d probably struggle as there’s no kids’ areas and the pool is very deep (2.6m). Also no lilos or ball games allowed which was a bit disappointing.
Reception area looks beautiful but felt a bit wasted – lots of sofas, and the bar there was never open during our 7 nights. Poolside area was calm and relaxing (sometimes a little too quiet) and the trees could do with trimming – constant birdsong wasn’t the nicest.
On the plus side, the poolside restaurant was lovely – burger & chips fab. Breakfast was average, premium breakfast was quieter but food the same. We tried dinner once (€27 each for American BBQ) but didn’t think it was worth it.
Location is excellent – away from the main strip but loads of bars and restaurants close by. Water park and Mijas village are a short taxi away, Malaga city is only 40 mins on the train (€7 return, station walking distance), and the airport is just 20 minutes away which is a massive plus after a 2–3 hour flight.
Overall, we would 100% return – staff and cleanliness made the stay for us.

We definitely enjoyed our stay at the Occidental in Fuengirola. We were on the 10th floor which included a great view. The room itself was great too, comfy bed and good toiletries in the bathroom. The air conditioning unfortunately wasn’t strong enough and we don’t even feel like it was turned on for our stay. It was just a bit hard to sleep with the heat. The reception staff were very friendly and professional. The housekeeping lady who cleaned our room was exceptionally lovely, and greeted us every morning. We would have loved to say goodbye but missed her on our last day. We had breakfast included, it was fairly decent. Fresh omelettes which we enjoyed everyday. Breakfast also included mostly British style foods, along with fresh fruit, pastries, a selection of fresh meats, and juices. There was options to sit outside which was very nice. We had food outside in the Breeze Bar. This was also amazing and reasonably priced. The pool area is quite small and there’s definitely not enough sun loungers for the amount of people staying at the hotel. The location is in the more quiet part of Fuengirola but yet within 10 minutes walking distance to all the main pubs and restaurants. The only thing that bothered us was the very slow elevator. Overall a great stay, we will be recommending.

Nice hotel in Fuengirola. The staff are polite and friendly. Room is nice. Only used the pool one day as it is so busy there and hard to find a seat in the sun.
