Visited here for our summer holiday and overall had a really good stay.
Staff were lovely and always happy to help, and the hotel/rooms were immaculate – constantly being cleaned throughout the day which was great to see.
We’re a couple with no kids and for us it was ideal, but if you do have children you’d probably struggle as there’s no kids’ areas and the pool is very deep (2.6m). Also no lilos or ball games allowed which was a bit disappointing.
Reception area looks beautiful but felt a bit wasted – lots of sofas, and the bar there was never open during our 7 nights. Poolside area was calm and relaxing (sometimes a little too quiet) and the trees could do with trimming – constant birdsong wasn’t the nicest.
On the plus side, the poolside restaurant was lovely – burger & chips fab. Breakfast was average, premium breakfast was quieter but food the same. We tried dinner once (€27 each for American BBQ) but didn’t think it was worth it.
Location is excellent – away from the main strip but loads of bars and restaurants close by. Water park and Mijas village are a short taxi away, Malaga city is only 40 mins on the train (€7 return, station walking distance), and the airport is just 20 minutes away which is a massive plus after a 2–3 hour flight.
Overall, we would 100% return – staff and cleanliness made the stay for us.

We definitely enjoyed our stay at the Occidental in Fuengirola. We were on the 10th floor which included a great view. The room itself was great too, comfy bed and good toiletries in the bathroom. The air conditioning unfortunately wasn’t strong enough and we don’t even feel like it was turned on for our stay. It was just a bit hard to sleep with the heat. The reception staff were very friendly and professional. The housekeeping lady who cleaned our room was exceptionally lovely, and greeted us every morning. We would have loved to say goodbye but missed her on our last day. We had breakfast included, it was fairly decent. Fresh omelettes which we enjoyed everyday. Breakfast also included mostly British style foods, along with fresh fruit, pastries, a selection of fresh meats, and juices. There was options to sit outside which was very nice. We had food outside in the Breeze Bar. This was also amazing and reasonably priced. The pool area is quite small and there’s definitely not enough sun loungers for the amount of people staying at the hotel. The location is in the more quiet part of Fuengirola but yet within 10 minutes walking distance to all the main pubs and restaurants. The only thing that bothered us was the very slow elevator. Overall a great stay, we will be recommending.

We had a lovely short stay at this hotel and would visit again. The room especially was great - the aircon worked very well and the beds/pillows were so comfortable. Food was good and breakfast had lots of variety. Nearby there are many shops and restaurants. The hotel is also a 20min walk from train and bus stations which connect you to Malaga, the airport, and Marbella.
The pool area is nice but it was hard to get a sunbed during most of the day. There are signs stating reserving beds is not allowed but this isn't enforced by staff. We noticed some guests putting towels down first thing in morning and not returning until midday. We found it best to go to the pool in late afternoon/evening and spent the rest of the day out of the hotel.

Very good stay, no complaints other than occasional noisy guests in the early hours of the morning but the staff were quick to tell them to quiet down.
Pool area sometimes busy not not too much of an issue.
Would stay again!

Disappointed by the Experience — Not Family-Friendly
We stayed at this hotel as a family of four — two adults, a 4-year-old, and a 1-year-old — and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the start.
Despite clearly requesting a baby cot during booking and providing the ages of both children, we were told upon arrival that our room could only accommodate two adults and one child. This put us in a difficult situation and showed a lack of flexibility and understanding, especially considering our 1-year-old just needed a cot and not a separate bed.
To make matters worse, we found ants in the toilet, which is unacceptable for any standard of accommodation. When we tried to raise this issue and get help at reception, we had to wait over 30 minutes just to speak to someone — and there was no apology or sense of urgency from staff.
Overall, this hotel did not feel family-friendly or well-managed. Cleanliness and basic hospitality were lacking, and we would not choose to stay here again or recommend it to others.
