This was my third TUI holiday in 12 months, and I’ve now spent around £7,000 on what were all advertised as 4-star hotels. Having recently stayed at the Riu Costa del Sol, which truly delivered a 4-star experience, I was left very disappointed by the standards at the MS Tropicana.
From the outset, I was struck by the fact that no 4-star plaque was displayed at the entrance. Nearby hotels, including those with a lower rating such as 3-star properties, proudly show theirs. The absence here raises the question: on what basis has this hotel been classed as 4-star?
The accommodation itself did not meet expectations. My room felt dated, more in line with a 2-star property, and had an adjoining door which compromised privacy. Basic amenities such as tea and coffee facilities were missing, which I would consider a given for a hotel at this rating. The balcony view was also poor, dominated by a large, disused extractor fan, and further spoiled by dust and debris falling from the balcony above.
Overall, I found the experience to be well below the standard promised. Having experienced the quality at the Riu Costa del Sol earlier this year, the difference was stark. I would like TUI to explain how the MS Tropicana has been awarded a 4-star rating and why it is marketed in the same category as properties that clearly exceed it in comfort, facilities, and overall guest experience.
I don’t blame the hotel, just TUI

Travelled on 24/6/25 for 7 nights a group of 7 ladies a welcome return to this lovely quaint hotel
Hotel is a little tired looking in places but there were room renovations being carried out which is a good thing
All staff pleasant and welcoming and all areas very clean however there is a breakfast room overlooking the sea and a bar area by reception that could be utilised better as these are not open ( except at breakfast)
Beatrice waitress in Tropicana was lovely and set up breakfast everyday so we could all eat together
We did have to have our evening meal next door at the sister hotel (MS Amaragua) and this restaurant couldn’t seem to cope with a party of 7 as most nights we were squashed up on a table for 6
They didnt seem to welcome quests from Tropicana very well as there were larger parties in this hotel ms Amaragua that seem to get larger tables (that may be just our experience)
The other factor which was annoying was the saving of sunbeds particularly by Tropicana pool people were out from 7-7.30 am putting on towels and some would not use the beds till much later !!!
This hotel is right on the beach and convenient to shops and bars and only 20 mins from airport .
in all it has more good points than bad so we will hopefully be there again next year.

Little jem of a place. Clean tidy good staff. The wife and myself enjoyed our stay and have Little criticism. The breakfast needs more attention to keep it warm. Possibly better if the plates where warm instead of cold .all in all would return no problem

A lovely hotel that is quite small in comparison to others around and rooms are quite old looking and don't have a kettle in rooms (not a big miss). Tropical no a has changed its layout for breakfast since our last visit 2019.You get a lovely sea view and breakfast has plenty to choose from. It's a shame they don't use the reception area and breakfast areas more as there is a bar there which is never open and lovely views in the evening in the breakfast area if that was open in the evening. That said you can use all the facilities to the sister hotel next door M/S Aramanga. They have an indoor pool and sauna) steam room and a much bigger outside pool area. The hotel is right on the front and beach you will not be disappointed with location. Decent price as long as you can except it is a little old in the rooms but very clean and pleasant staff.
