A well-equipped hotel let down by confusing rules and poor management
We stayed at the Maritim Hotel as a family of four with two small children (ages 7 and 1) from April 19 to 23. Overall, our experience was pleasant, but several odd and unnecessarily strict rules made the stay more restrictive than it needed to be.
What we loved
• Beautiful garden and outdoor space: The hotel’s garden is lovely—lush, green, and full of friendly cats, which our kids adored. The outdoor pool area is also well-maintained and a highlight of the property.
• Delicious and nutritious breakfast: A solid spread each morning with plenty of healthy and tasty options.
• Nice indoor pool and jacuzzi: Clean, spacious, and relaxing for adults.
• Modern, clean rooms: The rooms are fresh, well-kept, and comfortable. Everything worked as expected.
What needs improvement
• Overly restrictive pool policies:
• The rooftop pool, which offers a stunning view, is closed to families with children under 16. This rule feels excessive and puzzling. With proper supervision, there’s no reason why kids couldn’t be allowed there—especially since it’s not a rowdy bar environment.
• The indoor pool only allows children from 12:00 to 16:00, a strange limitation that’s not consistently enforced. On one day, kids are welcome; the next, they’re turned away. When the rooftop pool is off-limits and indoor hours for kids are so short, families are left with little flexibility.
• Needlessly complicated towel procedure: Getting towels for the pool requires picking up a special paper slip at the reception, then going to the -1 floor to exchange it. Even at the rooftop pool on the 9th floor, you’re expected to follow this awkward process. It’s time-consuming and inefficient—why not just offer towel cards like most hotels?
• Limited and unclear bar/café hours:
• The rooftop bar opens at 11 and closes by 17—even though it’s still light outside until 20:00. It feels like a missed opportunity for guests to enjoy the view with a drink in the evening.
• The bar in the reception area also doesn’t serve coffee, opens very late and has no posted schedule. This adds to the sense of disorganization.
• Spa service lacking warmth: While the spa facilities are okay, the reception staff didn’t feel as welcoming or attentive compared to other spas we’ve visited in Malta, such as Carisma Spa or the Hilton spa.
Final thoughts
The Maritim has all the ingredients of a great family hotel—good food, nice pools, clean rooms, and lovely grounds—but it’s held back by oddly strict and poorly communicated policies that reduce guest enjoyment. With more thoughtful management and a focus on guest experience, it could easily become a top choice for families visiting the area.

I had an unforgettable stay at Maritim Antonine Hotel & Spa Malta! From the moment I arrived, the staff's warm welcome and impeccable service made me feel truly special. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and elegantly furnished, offering breathtaking views of the sea and the town. Every detail was carefully thought out to ensure maximum comfort and relaxation. The location was perfect, with easy access to stunning beaches and local attractions. I can’t recommend this hotel enough to anyone seeking a flawless, rejuvenating getaway. I will definitely return!

Liked:
The room was quite spacious - we stayed with 2 kids (they slept on a sofa & in the baby cot) & there was enough space for a comfortable stay for everyone.
Breakfast is very good. Location is excellent - quite, beautiful & not overpriced town. Everything is near (it's Malta!)
The indoor pool is super - the water was warm - amazing for the kids!
Disliked:
We hoped to be upgraded to a room with a hot tub, but unfortunately, it's not possible for free (even if it's available) - which is quite reasonable I guess :)
It was quite challenging to use the underground parking - the descent and ascent are very narrow even for a small car. It's good that there were always free parking places near the hotel - but I guess that's because of the winter time.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel a lot. Breakfast is extraordinarily, staff was really nice, amazing cocktails in the bar. It was really clean but I’d have appreciated it if the cleaners vacuumed or swept the floor at least once in our room during our 7 day stay. Inside pool facilities are limited and unfortunately the child restrictions after 4 pm are not followed. Nevertheless, the hotel is very much recommended!

I stayed for a week at this beautiful luxury hotel. Overall, it was nearly impeccable and if I was to visit Malta again I would stay here. Hotel is immaculately clean, including room. I was aware of noise complaints from the roadside so I booked in advance a garden facing suite. I was thoroughly pleased as I was also upgraded upon arrival. Stunning rooftop pool for a swim and family pool area on ground level. Buffet breakfast including had everything you could wish for, including sparkling wine! Beautiful friendly staff especially in guest relations (shout out to David who was wonderful and personable! A real gem to the hotel) and in the restaurant at breakfast. A highlight was the resident cats who love company and cuddles. I have heard some people complain about thin walls which I don’t understand. I’m an incredibly light sleeper and couldn’t hear my connecting room guests at all. Maybe they were in the economy rooms across the tunnel. Only things I would improve: staff on reception give off a distant weird vibe (which others have alluded to), also struggle with some basic English, hairdryers in room are so old and basic and really should be modernised at a 4 star hotel, also housekeeping woke me once at 6:30am but other days were fine. One guest described it sounds like someone is moving furniture around which it does at times, but not throughout the night. This is because all rooms are tiled I guess. Housekeeping should keep this in mind and not tend to rooms before 8/9am out of consideration for current guests who are on holiday in need of rest. I overall enjoyed my stay at this fine luxury feeling hotel and it’s a great area with bus stops just outside which will get you anywhere on the island. Not to mention the beautiful view of Mellieha church. Feel rested and taken care of, thanks team!
