Hi just making you aware that this hotel isn't open 24 hours . We visited here last September . There was a strike on at the airport and we were delayed . We arrived at the Hotel at 1am in the morning . The Hotel was shut up and nobody available on reception to greet up . When we booked it didn't seem to be an issue . We rang the bell and knocked the door after half an hour of trying we were actually considering sleeping in the car although it crossed my mind that would be awkward with children . Not a great start to the holiday . A man came to open the door but he was not welcoming at all and said We have to sleep aswell . We'll that's fine I agree but when you are visiting a foreign country and had a pretty bleek long travelling time it's not what you expect to happen . The hotel is quite dated and dark in the bar area . The pool is nice and the breakfast staff are kind and helpful . I wouldn't stay here again though. Even though its nice and close to the Marina and a short walk to the town of Lagos . I don't think it's value for money either there were nicer hotels .

We booked this hotel as on the booking site it looked liked a traditional Portuguese hotel. We were very excited for our stay at the Sao Roque but the experience we had was beyond terrible.
Firstly, on the night of arrival, our plane was delayed. I had emailed the hotel beforehand to let them know that we would be arriving later.. (I thought the holiday company would have done this also) However, when we arrived, there was no one in reception and no one answered when we phoned the emergency number. The transfer driver was going to go home but I pleaded with him not to leave us. Kindly he stayed with us and eventually found us another hotel to stay in. I did get reimbursed from the holiday company for the money I spent on the first nights stay. But unfortunately this happened again on the third night when our key card to get in the building after hours, didnt work and no one answered the emergency number yet again. Although I am quite a resiliant person I found this situation a little harrowing due to the fact my teenage son was with me and even though Portugal is very safe, I felt guilty traipsing him round the streets in the early hours of the morning.
When we arrived back at the Sao Roque the next morning, there was no apology and no empathy shown. Instead the member of staff said yet again that it wasn't their fault .
In the end we decided to check out of this hotel as I had lost all confidence. I spent another £500 of my own money, which we were going to use on trips and meals, to stay in a four star hotel near the beach which is beautiful.
I have been totally shocked in the way that both the hotel company and the hotel have underplayed this and that being locked out of the hotel twice and not having an out of hours contact is nothing to complain about. I genuinely get that the Hotel Marina Sao Roque is a budget hotel but surely budget or not the basic expectation should be that you are able to gain access to your hotel in the evening? Yeh mistakes can happen but its the way they are dealt with.

Great location, very friendly staff, clean comfortbale bed. Rooms are quiet.
The bad, breakfast coffee is terrible instant coffee in a machine. Horrible reception for TV. Lobby is dark, all lights off as if trying to save money, which means unwelcoming feel. Elevators are locked to lobby from midnight to 7am. So if you check out early, you need to carry your bags down the stairs and use a side door.

I booked this hotel for a few days in Lagos. I was also on a budget and felt that their rates were fair. I was beyond impressed with them. Our rooms were always clean. Reception and the rest of the staff was great. Each of our nights there were very comfortable.

The good reviews on the hotel are probably paid for because this "3 star hotel" is worse than a road side motel. It's overpriced and outdated, the rooms are poorly equipped (no fridge, no coffee maker, very basic bathroom essentials). Same scarce food for breakfast day after day from a cheap supermarket. It tasted like it had been expired for awhile. And on top of that, on the very first day, when I asked the staff how to cool down a bottle of wine (no fridge in the room), some individual who refused to introduce himself and just said "I run this place", said "No, go buy drinks at the hotel bar". This is how they treat their guests. I had paid 700 Euros for 5 nights and my stay was very unpleasant.
