We spent a week at Ikos Kissamos in a 2 bedroom deluxe room with our 4 children. We have visited Odisia twice before and were excited to discover what Kissamos had to offer. Our room had multiple issues on the first night and unfortunately got off to a bad start. We had a flooded bathroom, lights that didn't turn off and were missing a bed! Requests went unanswered, countless maintenance people trailed through the room with promises of rectifying mess later.
With ambitions of enjoying our holiday we tried to book a padel court only to find that they were frustratingly both booked for the entirety of our 7 day stay. Nevertheless, we spent time at the deluxe pool which our children loved and the amazing Marianela served us drinks and worked tirelessly to make sure everything was good. She was an absolute star. The staff really make a difference here, they are amazing, hard working and very kind. If you are thinking of visiting, I would recommend you wait until the hotel looks less like a building site and issues have been resolved.

This is our third year in a row at an Ikos resort, and Kissamos did not disappoint! Brand new facility, incredible views and as usual, staff that goes above and beyond to make our trip a lifelong memory. A great addition to the Ikos family. Thank you!!

Summary: A stunning setting and genuinely friendly staff, but the resort isn't ready. Service is slow or non-existent, the grounds beyond the main areas and pool are visibly unfinished, broken glass was left on a path for 12 hours, and most seriously my pregnant wife was repeatedly served alcohol after ordering soft drinks. We complained, nothing changed. Felt like paying guinea pigs for their teething problems. Maybe it'll be good in 6 months. We won't be back to find out.
Alcohol served to my pregnant wife, repeatedly.
My wife is pregnant and ordered non-alcoholic drinks throughout the stay. Multiple times she was served alcohol instead. We raised it with staff, we raised it again, and nothing changed. Getting this wrong once would be careless. Getting it wrong repeatedly, after being told, is unsafe. If you don't drink alcohol, or you're pregnant, do not stay here. You cannot trust what's in your glass.
Arrival.
Not enough cars laid on for the airport transfer, so the group was split up and left waiting. When we got to the resort there was no water and no welcome drink. We stood around for 30 minutes before anything happened.
The grounds beyond the main areas and pool are unfinished.
The pool area and central spaces look the part, but step outside them and it falls apart. Wires sticking out of the ground around the gardens and pathways, exposed fittings in bare earth, half-planted beds, and dust where landscaping should be. Several friends' rooms had holes in the walls and wires coming out of the floor. Broken glass and dirty plates were left next to a path for 12 hours during the day, with kids and barefoot guests around. On a separate occasion dirty plates and a glass were left outside our room for over 24 hours before anyone collected them.
Service.
Expect at least a 40-minute wait for a drink by the pool, and on several occasions our order never arrived at all. Drink orders were wrong repeatedly. Room service got our order wrong three separate times. The drinks menu was never brought out, only the wine list, so anyone wanting a soft drink, mocktail, or cocktail had to ask blind. Turn down service either came at 10pm or not at all. Rooms weren't cleaned daily, and when they were it was in the early evening when we wanted to be in them.
One quirk worth knowing: staff can do either drinks orders or food orders, not both. You have to flag down the right person for each. At breakfast it gets worse, only certain staff can take coffee orders. So a simple "coffee and eggs" can mean waving down three different people and waiting between each.
Gym and indoor changing facilities.
No hair dryers, ran out of towels, wires coming out of the wall. Not what you'd expect from a brand new build.

I was getting daily WhatsApp messages from a completely different resort in another country throughout the trip. Our return airport taxi was booked for 30 minutes before our flight instead of 3 hours ahead, which could easily have made us miss the plane.
Beautiful setting, lovely people. But the resort has opened months before it's ready, and at these prices guests shouldn't be the ones absorbing that.

This was our 7th Ikos / Sani hotel visit and we had a lovely time. It’s a new hotel vast in scale and incredible in many ways, it’s still finding its feet and there are snags here and there with some things not working and service slow, but it’s still a fantastic hotel. Drinks and food were immense and our garden room near the main pool was incredible. The facilities for children are great.

Outstanding hotel located on one of the nicest beaches in Crete. Beautiful facilities, amazing spa and a fantastic atmosphere overall. The à la carte restaurants are excellent but the buffet is also surprisingly good, especially the grill section at Kriti. The resort is also a paradise for kids and the staff were warm and welcoming throughout the stay. We stayed only two weeks after opening so a few inconsistencies are understandable, but management handled everything professionally. We would gladly come back.
