Overall, a very pleasant stay. The staff was friendly, the hotel was clean, and we really appreciated the free late check-out. The location is ideal for a family holiday.
However, it was surprising that with dinner included, even basic water wasn’t offered – you have to pay extra for any drink, including water. Also, the beds, while not uncomfortable, were very squeaky and felt more like camping furniture than hotel standard.
Still, a good experience with room for small improvements

The HSM Golden Playa Hotel has a very good location. It is located on the first line of the beach and at the same time close to the airport. The nearby airport made me a little worried that the stay would be very noisy, given the large number of flights. Although the planes could be heard slightly during the day, they did not disturb me at all at night (with the window closed). So even people with sensitive hearing can be calm.
As for the accommodation, I chose a room with a terrace and a sea view. The disadvantage of choosing this room is the low floor and at the same time less privacy on the terrace (there are glass railings on the left and right). However, the big advantage is that you can sunbathe on your terrace and do not have to look for a place by the pool (the pools are not heated anyway and the water in them is cold).
The room was clean, sufficiently equipped, but I would have liked an even larger area (e.g. to accommodate a small couch). The mattresses were softer and the beds creaked a bit (as someone mentioned in a review before me).
Btw. if you choose a "better" room, as was the case with me, you won't be able to use the late check out, as such rooms are immediately occupied after a late check out.
The breakfast menu was sufficient, nothing interesting, and therefore I rate it rather average. The dinners were more interesting, which I rate as above average overall. Both in terms of the breadth of the menu (every evening there were all kinds of meat in different ways, as well as various specialties), and in terms of the quality of the dishes. The dinners are really worth paying extra for.
At the same time, I have to highlight the entire hotel staff, who were nice, smiling and helpful.
From practical information, I would also like to mention that the hotel does not have its own parking lot, so if you rent a car or motorbike, you will have to rely only on free parking on the street.
Despite the minor shortcomings, I rate the HSM Golden Playa hotel above average and I definitely recommend it.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and well presented, but everything is catered towards German clientele. We enjoyed our stay out of season, but the biggest downside is that the outdoor pool is not heated at all, not even a little bit. I think people would have used it more if it was, as the weather was warm enough and the hotel was busy. The views are lovely and the hotel is right on the front with easy access to Palma / airport from the bus stop outside. Supermarket just across the road too and plenty of local shops and bars.

Read before booking.
Positives -
1) The hotel is in a great location by the beach and I’d imagine is great for the warmer weather (we stayed in February). There are lots of amenities nearby along with bars and restaurants, albeit the vast majority were closed at this time of year in the evening.
2) Easy to get to from the airport and to travel to Palma.
3) The guy on reception was very friendly and welcoming each day (didn’t catch his name).
4) The hotel was kept very clean also.
Negatives -
1) The bed is firm, the frame is like a camp bed and so very squeaky and quite uncomfortable, and you ache after a couple of nights.
2) Everything from the room, towels and food seem to be on a budget (but you won’t be paying a budget price) and are very average. This includes the food in the onsite restaurant.
3) No air-con in the rooms in February, despite the room being hot and stuffy and no fans available to be provided either.
Major negatives -
1) The hotel next door was being renovated ready for opening and there was loud building works every day (bar Sunday) which started at 8am (or before) and finished at 6pm. Bear this in mind if you come in February.
There was no mention of this on the hotels website or when booking or arriving at the hotel.
2) We asked to change room because of this, which was added to a list but we never changed room during our stay. On check out the same staff member asked if we changed room and we said no, nobody on reception had said anything - it appears it was up to us to ask each day rather than the staff tell us, but we weren’t told this until checking out!
Also on check out, we were going to leave our room at 12pm and a cleaner started banging on the door and tapping on her watch telling us to leave, so rude! It was a few minutes before but she still decided to come into the room whilst we were finishing packing and started cleaning.
It would have been unlikely we stayed again but those last two experiences have confirmed we will not be returning. It’s a shame for the staff that go above and beyond that they have colleagues who undermine their good work.
I was going to give the hotel 3/5 but after the two final experiences the hotel deserves no more than 1/5.
Overpriced and average with staff with bad attitude towards their paying guests.

What a fantastic stay at this wonderful hotel. Brilliant location to explore the island by bicycle. Hotel and staff from Bernard in the bike room to Alex and Aliz at the bar and Manolo and Pepe. Special mention for Sumit who went above and beyond the call of duty to help us out with our flight delays, this wonderful man should wear a superhero cape. We are so grateful and thankful. Thank you all.
