Very Disappointing Stay Mis‑sold Room, Poor Service, and Not the Barceló Standard expected.
We are currently staying at Barceló Active Lanzarote from 27th December until 10th January, booked through Jet2 Holidays, and we have already made a direct complaint to Jet2 regarding the issues we’ve experienced so far!
Unfortunately, this stay has been extremely disappointing and far below the standard we expected from the Barceló chain.
We paid £6,800 for what was advertised as a premium family holiday, and we specifically chose Barceló because of the fantastic experience we had at one of their hotels in Fuerteventura last year. This hotel does not compare in any way!
We booked a Junior Suite, but the room we received was very basic, dated, and nowhere near the standard of a suite. It feels more like a budget hotel room in Benidorm than a 4 star property Lanzarote. On top of that, the electrics in the room were not working correctly. While this was partially resolved, it should never have been an issue in a room sold as a higher tier option.
We raised our concerns on the first day and asked to pay for an upgrade to the Royal Level, as we felt we had been mis sold the room. We were told we could upgrade on the 4th of January, and in the meantime, we were repeatedly promised we would be moved to a more suitable room “the next day.” Five days later, nothing had been done, and we have now been told that there is no possibility of upgrading at all, despite being assured otherwise multiple times.
If it were just the two of us, we would have chosen to go home early, but we don’t want to disappoint our two children, who were looking forward to this holiday over the new year period.
Overall, the hotel feels run down, the service around our room issue has been poor, and the experience does not reflect the Barceló standard we trusted and expected. For the price paid, this has not been the luxury, peaceful family holiday we were promised.
I would not recommend this hotel, and if we were to stay with the Barceló chain again, we would only consider one of their newer, better maintained properties, as this one simply does not meet the expected standard.

I was unsure about booking here having read variable reviews but wow I’m so glad I did! Absolutely loved the place. I travelled solo and requested a room in the main building (playa side) after booking direct. Room was huge, nice and clean, spacious balcony. The beds are honestly the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in on holiday. Staff are all super friendly. The gym and Olympic pool are incredible. I found dinner a bit repetitive but I believe this is standard in such big hotels, the choices were huge though. Evening entertainment was great too. My only slight annoyance is the sliding wardrobes are very loud and you can hear the neighbours ones through walls so if you’re a light sleeper take earplugs. It’s about a 25 min walk to centre of Costa Teguise but all along the seafront so lovely. For the price I paid and what I got for it, I would 100% recommend and I think I’ll come back next year!

I recently stayed at Barceló Active Resort and had an amazing experience. The atmosphere around the pool was one of the highlights of my trip, thanks to the mini-events held throughout the day.
A special shoutout goes to Tim, who led most of the activities. He was incredibly friendly, enthusiastic, and full of energy. His positive attitude made every event enjoyable, whether it was a quick game, a fitness activity, or just a fun moment to get everyone smiling. You could tell he genuinely cared about making sure guests had a great time.
Overall, the resort is beautiful, but the lively poolside events and Tim’s fantastic hosting truly made the stay memorable. Highly recommend

This is our first time at the Barcelo Active (the side that heads up the hill towards the EuroSpar and has the olympic pool). We have stopped at Hotel Nazaret, Santa Rosa (many, many times) and playa blanca (Sandos). We know the location very well and as usual had a car which makes getting out and about easier than using the public bus, that stops outside the front entrance. From here to the town / Square is a 30 - 40 minute walk depending on how well you know the cut-throughs or €4 - €5 by taxi. While we are here (Dec 2025) the weather is very nice - shorts and sunbathing by day, jeans / fleece by night. No mosquitos.
Staff are VERY friendly.
We think the hotel is excellent for physical activities as much as for those that don't!
We think it's only 25-50 occupied, so food supply and quality is excellent. Not sure how they cope when full 🌝
We are half board. Each room/ food basis is identified by a nylon band with a chip to open your room door, but they "self-tighten" so optional to wear it or just keep it ready to show. Our room was in block 6 furthest from the entrance, near the wellbeing centre. There's a door to the rear that takes you the delivery area and out to the main road, Lidl (new) and EuroSpar. It's also good to park your car up there as it busy near the entrance. If this review helps you, please click the thumbs 👍. Conclusion - well worth a visit and stay if it's at the right price and where you like to be centered.

Great hotel friendly staff. Facilities were great. Multiple pools and even an Olympic size pool. The hotel is fantastic for all, families, couples and especially sporty people as lots of Facilities such as the fantastic gym and Olympic size pool combined with the climate is a tri athletes dream. There are mutiple cycle shops on site too.
Our room was spacious. Only minor point was 2 single beds not joined so slipped apart in the night. We were all inclusive and the food choices were varied and of good quality.
It is on the outer edge of costa teguise and you can walk into town in 30mins or a bus which was 1.4 euros or a taxi which is 4-5 euros.
Overall a great hotel and would go back.
