Constant noise! From the hotel 150 Meters away from your room terrace - the reconstruction starts 0800 every day. With heavy machinery, beeping lorrys and stone cutters! That lasts until late afternoon - all day! And then - in the evening, the entertainment plays incredibly loud music until 2130-2200 Thus - if you appreciate peace and quiet - while enjoying the vacation - DO NOT GO HERE!

No air-conditioning and rooms were unbearably hot in August! We had to pay extra €120 for air con units that we had to set up ourselves - even with these rooms were still very hot! Had to get taxis everywhere. The hotel is at the top of a huge hill/mountain! Paths are cobbled and slippy so a no go for walking up or down to beaches/restaurants. View of the ocean is beautiful however! Entertainment is noisey and the same annoying man every night repeating the same thing. Stairways were sometimes unclean I.e a dead seagull left on stairs for a few days, rubbish bags etc left out. Lifts are a joke! There are 2 lifts for the entire hotel resort which are SUPER slow and made of glass so super hot and always full! Pool areas a bit dirty with fake eyelashes/plasters. Seats always full and with people leaving towels on them from night before to keep seats.

It is a great hotel with lovely, friendly staff. The hotel is located at the top of a mountain, however we had a rental car so this wasn't too much of a bother for us. Amazing views from our balcony and the balcony and room itself were very nice. A massive downside to this hotel is that the room get extremely hot (we were there during the heatwave and outside was reaching 36°C. So the rooms felt way over 40°C). We bought additional air con which was fine, but would recommend investing in the air conditioned rooms for your stay.

My hardest review ever! Hotel Altamar in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria is difficult to rate. Therefor I will rate in the following way: Location: ***** Rooms: *** Reception: * Reception another time: ***** Cleaning: * Let me explain. Upon arrival we were met in the reception by a really friendly and nice guy. He was eager to make us feel welcome and showed/told us what we needed to know. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case with all receptionists. The rooms are ok but should need a small fix of some different things. One of them was the shower that was partly broken, also impossible to set a decent temperature of the water. There are no AC’s in the rooms, just ceiling fans, but that’s just how it has to be when you enter through the balcony door. That door remains open until you leave and that means that an AC should just try to cool the outside air. Not possible, will consume a lot of electricity for no benefit. Overall it is a nice hotel with a magnificent view and location. A free shuttle bus to two different beaches, decent breakfast thus some things ran out quite quickly. A small shop with great opening hours and also cheaper (on most stuff) than the shops in the nearby commercial centre. There are lots of stairs in this hotel! A lot! And only two elevators or actually motorized "slides" going on an about a 45 deg rail. These elevators are known to break down a lot but didn't happen on our stay. If they brake and you live on the lowest floors it can be a bit of a struggle, the only way out is at the top floor through the reception. About the cleaning and the bad experience at the reception: When me and my son was sitting on the balcony, the cleaning lady came to our room. We heard her brake a drinking glass in the kitchen and did a small effort to clean it up. After she left, I found lots of broken glass in small pieces on both the floor and the kitchen counter (stone). I went to the reception and told them about it. In a matter of minutes, a different cleaner arrived to try and clean up the glass. He did a lousy job and left a lot. I called reception, same guy came and did a second run. Now the counter was clean but the floor still had glass pieces. Now I started to get annoyed and went again to the reception asking to borrow a vacuum cleaner (best way to clean glass pieces). She called the cleaning guy and he came to the reception, they started to speak Spanish and I could understand that they were basically making fun of me for using the flashlight on my phone to see if the glass was gone. In a hotel room in a temperature of about 30 deg. Celsius, you should be able to walk around in bare feet without being scared of getting glass in your feet! The answer to my question about borrowing a vacuum: “Sorry, we don’t have one!” I can’t believe that a hotel with a couple of hundred rooms, conference rooms, playground for kids and other facilities doesn’t own a vacuum cleaner. I had to go back to the room, move all furniture in the kitchen and do it myself! Then the cleaning guy turned up again, this time I told him that he could leave! The only way to get rid of all the glass was to clean myself! Nothing you should have to do on a vacation!

Just come home this morning . The views were stunning and worth the money. Loved the views. You are situated at the top of the mountain, but the views are spectacular. There is a lot of steps in these apartments. There are two lifts that can be used. The doors on the lifts close very fast.The lager was tropical. You could have the spirits free if you were all inclusive. Branded cocktails and other spirits you had to pay. I just used their vodka with Pepsi max great. They have cardboard cups, not a fan. I would take plastic pink ones next time. Food a vast selection of hot, cold , salad, cheese , burgers, pizza, pasta, kebab, and so on you won’t starve. I enjoyed the Asian night , barbecue night, food not hot but I don’t mind that. I did notice a microwave there so you could heat up food if wanted. Pool lovely size and not cold just right, the area is like a sun trap boiling the floor does get very hot throughout the day. First think breakfast take a towel down and place it, I waited till dinner time and there was room. I didn’t bother with entertainment I went out and about or just relaxed on my balcony and listened. The staff worked very hard to keep the place ticking. There is negatives but there will always will be but I feel that I would go here again. Lovely place. We arrived at 10.30 in night, we bought pop from airport as we knew we would be thirsty arriving as there is nothing in the room, and didn’t know our way about hotel and too tired to check it out.
