Family Friendly Airports in the UK

If you are thinking of going on a family holiday with your children, many airports offer facilities that make the experience as stress-free as possible. Here are four of the best.

A family holiday with your children is often the highlight of the year for most people. However, what is often dreaded all year is the actual journey to your holiday destination. Travelling with children can be a stressful experience, but many airports in the UK offer facilities and services for families with small children to make the experience as stress-free as possible. Here are four airports that are great for families travelling with children and babies.

If you have a toddler or baby then you’ll know that having baby-changing facilities nearby is an absolute necessity – especially if you are going to be at the airport for more than a few hours. At Manchester Airport there are plenty of baby changing facilities throughout each terminal, which all include chairs so that you can breastfeed your child with ease in a comfortable setting.

If you would like something to eat…

There are a variety of family restaurants throughout the airport that will heat up your baby milk for you free of charge. Restaurants that are popular with families in the airport include Giraffe, Joe’s Kitchen, Frankie & Benny’s and Trattoria Milano. If you would like to pre-order your baby milk before you get to the Airport, Boots offer a baby milk pre order service that you can order before you travel and pick up after you’ve checked in through security.

If you like to keep hold of your child’s buggy right up until your departure this is possible. You’ll be able to take the buggy through security up to the departure gate, and it will be returned to you once you arrive at your destination. You also get free fast lane through security if you have a child in a pushchair!

If you need somewhere to keep the kids entertained whilst you’re waiting for our flight, then terminal 2 is home to a soft play area especially for children! There’s also a dedicated area for under 3’s, as well as a place for older children to play too.

London Heathrow

There are baby-changing facilities throughout the airport located both before and after security control as well as family friendly car parking with extra room at either side of the car and an average transfer time of just 10 minutes to any terminal by shuttle bus.

In Terminals 2, 4 and 5 the ‘Stay & Play’ play areas are fantastic for kids of all ages. They’re that great you might actually have to drag your child away from them to get them on the plane (sorry!). The areas feature slides, soft play areas and special zones for babies and toddlers. They’re open from 6am until 9pm every day.

Terminal 3 offers a family lounge, which is home to a play area for children up to 9 years old. There’s also a special zone for infants under 2. For older kids, there’s a game zone where they’ll be entertained right up until your flight is called! If you’re breastfeeding your baby and would like some privacy, then there is a discreet area, although you do not have to use this if you do not wish.
