Bodrum is home to the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, but this isn’t where the wonder stops with this gem of a holiday destination. Historical sites, enriched culture, fantastic scenery, wonderful weather and magnificent beaches mean Bodrum holidays have something for everyone from couples to families to young travellers alike.
Bodrum is one of the more upmarket Turkish resorts, which is clear from the array of private yachts in the moorings of the harbour. Bodrum town itself is a myriad of narrow streets and pretty buildings down to the harbour with the iconic castle of St Peter a lasting image of the town.
Apart from it’s scenery and historic sites Bodrum also has a large array of trendy bars and clubs and an active nightlife. Most of the bars are situated on the beachfront and offer a relaxed vibe during the day with a livelier atmosphere at night. On the other side of the city the marina offers a more relaxed atmosphere in the evening with some excellent bars and restaurants.
Away from Bodrum itself the area boasts some magnificent beach resorts including Altinkum, Gumbet and Bitez. Each offering golden sandy beaches and individual attractions for families, couples and revellers.
With average temperatures in Bodrum above 20 degrees Celsius from May to October and July and August having an average temperature of 28-29 degrees Celsius it is easy to see why this Turkish Gem is such a popular destination for summer holidays.
The hot weather and wonderful beaches mean the most popular activities on Bodrum holidays are relaxing on one of the areas wonderful beaches or enjoying one of the many watersports available. From snorkelling and scuba diving to windsurfing and banana boat rides the wide variety of activities means there is something for everyone, or simply do nothing, relax with a cocktail under the hot sun.
It would be a shame to go on holiday to Bodrum and not visit on of the region’s historical sites. The ruins of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, is an enchanting trip. Other sites like the Castle of St Peter are also popular as is the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology.
