Situated in the south-eastern part of Kefalonia, Poros is a charming and traditional resort, perfect for laid-back holidays and plenty of authenticity. It's great for combining other more popular resorts such as Skala and even the island of Zante into your Greek travels. With the resort not generally promoted as a destination, it means that there is far less commercialism, much more of the 'real Greek living' and a flock of visitors who have never wished to holiday elsewhere due to the humble and unassuming air Poros exudes. Secluded beaches and coves adorn this picturesque coastal town with some mountainous scenery playing host to rich history and legendary tales.
Poros is very popular with hikers for its coastal paths and hilly terrain just behind the resort. The wider area is more mountainous but amongst all this can be found ancient ruins of former citadels, secluded beaches and stunning scenic views. The beaches are pretty and the sea a deep azure. There are plenty of boat tours to set you on your way and help you begin your discovery of all things Greek. Island hopping is extremely popular in this part of Kefalonia and Poros makes a great base for a trip to Zante and other surrounding areas.
Poros offers a square filled with tavernas and a few bars, the necessary shops and a bank and chemist. There are plenty of options for food and drink at the sea front including some souvenir shops. In fact many visitors to Poros consider it to be one of the most charming Greek resorts, simply perfect for relaxing and watching a portion of the world go by.
