We had a lovely time at the Royal Sun Resort. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Our apartment was spacious and clean, a little old in places but all functional. The breakfast and evening meals were all fabulous.
There's not much to do in the evenings that may suit some people, also not great if you don't like hills. The views are probably some of the best on the island.

The room was spacious and clean. We didn’t think it was “dated”, as another reviewer wrote, and yet I’m sure it wasn’t one of the newly refurbished rooms. We were more than pleased with the room. The terrace is huge with beautiful views. (Such a shame the clouds blocked the sunset the day we were there,) We stayed just one night, being based in Santa Cruz for our vacation in Tenerife. We came for the night to go on one of the whale-watching boats the next day. We walked down to the marina and climbed back up. We are oldsters, but it was fine (though I wouldn’t want to be carrying much going back up). We do have some gripes, though. A room with a kitchenette that is fully equipped should have some tea and coffee. That’s being cheap to not provide that. Likewise, we took half-board and the dinner was underwhelming. We are vegetarian and asked when we reserved if we’d find what to eat and were told there were vegetarian options. There was salad, no fresh fruits other than an apple or banana (I’d think cut melon, for example, would have been in order) and the hot dishes - even if I weren’t vegetarian - were not impressive. For a vegetarian, there was little. There could have been a larger selection of cheeses (I’m not vegan), which is true of breakfast, too. But the most irritating thing at dinner was that a hot drink - tea or coffee - is not included! When one of the hosts came to ask if everything was OK, I commented about that, and she said they wouldn’t charge us. But a buffet dinner with no hot drinks is a nickel-and-dime business model, and gives a bad feeling. Breakfast was better than dinner, with salad, different cheeses (there still could be a better selection), some fresh fruit, though, again, a larger selection would have been nice. At least the hot drinks were part of the buffet. So, if there were an option to put stars for the food, I’d give 3 stars for the food. I didn’t reduce the overall stars, though, because the room and view were a pleasure, and the staff were pleasant.

Very relaxing hotel with stunning views and spacious rooms
Pros:
+ All rooms have an amazing view on the sea & village
+ Good standards rooms very spacious with XXL terraces with sunbeds and a table with chairs
+ Kitchens are well equipped with everything you need in terms of appliances (toaster, kettle, microwave, oven, hob with extractor, big fridge/freezer)
+ Everything is clean and well maintained
+ The swimming pools are very nice and relaxing. And you have plenty of sunbeds around (enough for everyone)
+ You can get pool/beach towels against a 10€ deposit (no need to bring your own)
+ Breakfast is nice and good quality with freshly baked pancakes and omelettes
+ You can get a car park space allocation in their indoor car park (only accessible with a badge). But spots are limited (~25 in total)
+ If you need to leave early in the morning or want to have breakfast after 10AM (when breakfast is closing) you can ask for a "picnic" bag the day before and the staff will give you food to replace the breakfast. It's pretty basic but very useful (especially when you have a very early flight like us)
Cons:
- When we arrived we discovered that the road in front of the hotel was in renovation with many bulldozers. We didn't receive/see any warning about that when booking. Even at check-in they didn't mention it. The only information given was on a paper at the lift (see picture attached). On top of that we have been given a room which was the closest to the road. And from 8.30AM every mornings we could hear the machine/tools digging/breaking pavements. While this was something the hotel couldn't avoid, communication could have been MUCH better to help customers.
- During our stay (mid-June) we saw dozens of small insects (same type) on the walls. It really seem like something related to specific period and climate (like for flying ants). We called the reception who sent a member of staff who explained us it was some insects which were eating the wooden furniture and she sprayed some "human-friendly" insecticide in the room. Which did the job.
- To accommodate space/organisation, you have to choose between 2 time slots for your breakfast: 8AM-9AM or 9AM-10AM. And if you want to switch on one day you have to tell them in advance the day before (and not several days before!)
- Corridors can be very noisy as they are designed like "caves" between the mountain and the rooms. And the entrance doors are not really noise insolating.
- You cannot drink tap water in Tenerife. We got a 1.5L water bottle when checking in. But then nothing which is a bit cheap for a 4* hotel.
- No coffee/tea in the room. Again a bit cheap for a 4* hotel
- While the breakfast was very nice overall, there were not enough variations to my taste. Except for 2-3 items it was pretty much the same stuff for 90% of the items
- The swimming pool closes at 7PM which is a bit early to my taste (9-10PM would be nicer)

Royal sun is a great place tucked away from tourists. We enjoyed a week stay here. They have an entertainment crew and provide fun activities each day except Mondays. The breakfast is wonderful and lots of choices. The view is spectacular but the pool is not heated. Great stay!

We were surprised to find this gem on the top of the hill with all rooms facing a stunning sunset sea view 😍 💙
Hotel it's very clean and has a carpark which needs to be booked in advance, as the spaces are limited.
Room was very spacious with a kitchen and lounge included.
The only 4 stars are given for the location, as it's a bit of an uphill walk, but they do have a shop downstairs where you can find the essentials 😉 (plus an ice cream)
I would definitely return here 👍
