We recently stayed at Secrets Lanzarote and overall had a great experience, but there are a few points worth mentioning for anyone considering it.
Upon arrival, there was no one to greet us or help with our bags, which wasn’t quite the first impression we were hoping for compared to our previous stay at Secrets in Mexico. We were welcomed with a drink and towel once we reached reception, which was a nice touch, and someone did escort us to our room. However, help with bags straight from the entrance would have felt more fitting for a hotel at this level.
We arrived early, so it was understandable that the room wasn’t ready yet. The hotel kindly allowed us to use the restaurants and facilities while we waited, and our room ended up being ready about an hour before the standard 3 PM check-in time, which we really appreciated.
The grounds are beautiful and kept very clean, with palm trees and a lovely spread across three levels. There’s a Preferred Club area on the lowest level offering extra access perks, but the way it’s separated from the rest of the resort does take away a little from the overall atmosphere. Cabanas were available for day rental, although we didn’t find them particularly worth it.
Service inside the restaurants and bars was very good — all the staff were friendly, and food and drinks arrived quickly and efficiently. However, poolside service could definitely be improved. On our first day, there was only one server for all the pool areas, meaning we often had to go to the bar ourselves — which was especially inconvenient if you were at the furthest pool. On the second day, the server disappeared after lunchtime and wasn’t seen again.
The buffet lunch was one of the weaker points. The food didn’t taste particularly fresh, and it seemed like a lot of it had been frozen. Live cooking stations were understaffed, which didn’t help the experience. Desserts at the buffet also lacked any allergen information, which could be an issue for those with dietary restrictions.
That being said, there were great dining options too. The Italian restaurant offered tasty food, good service, and decent portion sizes. The Barefoot Grill was another highlight for lunch — everything was cooked to order with nice, refreshing light options.
The pool areas were beautiful, but the water was very cold — more ice bath than relaxing swim — which made it less appealing to hang around in for long periods. Also, the beach and pool chairs could have been more comfortable to match the level of the resort.
Housekeeping kept our room clean and tidy throughout the stay, although we did have to request more body wash after it wasn’t refilled one day.
One positive was that we didn’t need to book restaurants in advance, but that may have been because the hotel wasn’t particularly busy during our stay.
Overall, Secrets Lanzarote is an incredible hotel with lots to love. However, it did feel like it was missing a little of the “luxury magic” — the small details like ticket exchanges for towels, less comfortable loungers, and noticeable divisions between Preferred Club and non-Preferred guests all chipped away at the full luxury feeling you’d expect from a top-end resort.
It absolutely deserves its 5-star rating for quality and service, but if you’re expecting seamless, no-compromise luxury, you might feel it falls just a little short.

Definitely not 5 star
Was March time and weather it wasn't great.
Arrived no one to meet you at the entrance to take your bags for a five-star would expect this to be taken on arrival.
We were eventually greeted by a nice chap that showed us to our room and was very happy and funny.
Rooms are very nice and spacious but a word of caution I you do come March time and it is cold they have no heating in the rooms and have to ask for extra blankets and luckily in our case had a mini heater we could use.
Buffet breakfast on our stay was also not
Great would say they are understaffed was shown to our table, and depending on what day may have been offered, tea and coffee, and this was depending if we caught the waiters eye.
Had a great selection of food, but on each occasion, boiled or fried eggs were not available and had to wait and plates and bowls were not available on some days.
The coffee machine was just not great as the coffee in whole even in the evening cheap machine coffee.
Didn't use the pools, but all looked loverly and plenty of space.
They have entertainment in the main reception area 9.30 to 10.15 and they entertainment on my visit was not the best.
So we just walked into Marina most nights and entertained ourselves.
This was my experience and was only bed and breakfast in late March and would say yes stay in mid June July etc and pools will be heated more, but as an overall experience for me no thanks wouldn't come back to this hotel.
No wow factor here for me.
More for the client that want to stay in one location not for me.

Beautiful location and reception experience. Lovely room but mixed expirience of room servicing by housekeeping. Instructions are to place towels in the floor if a change is required but came back to the room at 4 pm on 2 days and no service so no dry towels to use. Not a 5 star service by default in my opinion. This has happened 2 days now despite contacting reception and Jet2 and the room opposite being serviced at 2pm! Update- Pleased to say following a specific request via the Hyatt app for a morning service it was conducted this morning and to a good standard because the attendant was thorough and was not rushing due to our presence as happened previously. Excellent gym and restaurants and all staff very helpful. Good evening entertainment.

This is a very nice hotel staff are all very friendly except one woman in the Italian restaurant who really doesn't seem to want to be there . Rooms lovely and clean food excellent comfortable sunbeds and a peaceful place on the whole. There are a couple of negative things .the pools are freezing except the one that's heated for the so called special guests which would stop me returning and the pool snack bar can't be used at lunch until after 3pm which is pointless .unless again you are a special guest, personally these 2 things would stop us returning .

My husband and I had a wonderful few days staying here. We had a pool view which was stunning. We did not dine in the hotel for dinner as we like to venture out and the marina which is 5 minutes away was perfect. Plenty of restaurants with top quality food. The breakfast in the hotel was plentiful and very nice. The staff here were friendly and professional. I will definitely return. Lovely area.
