We had a great stay at Paradisus Meliá Gran Canaria. Room was great, the surroundings are beautiful and everything is spotless clean. Pool area is nice, and the beach is a few meters from the hotel. Good variety of restaurants, although it's a shame it can be hard to get tables at some and that all not are open every day. Staff sometimes forget orders at the restaurants or can't answer questions about food and wines - but they are all very nice and friendly so it's no big deal. The food itself is quite good, and the bars have a everything one could need - but vermouth. When in Spain it would be nice to have a spanish vermouth by the glass... The gym and spa is in perfect order and very nice. The hotel offers activities that are excellent (especially the hiking trip), but also wine tasting, candle making and - a bit surprising - stargazing at their own observatory. I haven't been to all of them of course, but I doubt you'll find a better hotel in Gran Canaria.

Overall rating 4 out of 5 - I had a nice holiday here and would return especially if the price is more reasonable.
Pros
Most staff friendly and welcoming. Rita who did breakfast in The Reserve was genuinely friendly and welcoming.
Lots of activities available from aqua exercise, star-gazing, outdoor cinema.
Different restaurants, of varying quality are available
Good choice of alcohol available and a wide range of cocktails. That said, if you’re an after-dinner brandy drinker like me I’m afraid it’s Carlos III or pay.
Beach accessible through an access-controlled gate
Issues on checking-in were quickly resolved in a satisfactory way.
Concierge desk helpful and friendly, thank you Daniel for sorting out my upgrade to The Reserve.
Nice weather in Gran Canaria which always helps give a favourable impression. Not sure what I would do here if the weather is bad. Bring a book just in case.
Choice at breakfast is fantastic - nice juices, pastries, hot breakfast and cold cuts.
Most staff speak very good English, maybe not so good if you don’t speak English or Spanish but then you wouldn’t be reading this.
Surrounding area is quiet and no traffic noise.
Cons
Menus are through a QR code. It becomes a bore after a while. I heard some people complaining about this but you could ask for a physical menu in the restaurants. It wasn’t on the tables.
No pool-side service - very disappointing for a hotel of this standard.
A huge number of very young children running around in the dining rooms, kids being kids. OK for families but not for travellers who are looking for a quiet time.
The live music harp, clarinet, first thing in the morning at breakfast was intrusive and grating.
After 2 days of kids and music I gave up and paid to upgrade to the adults only area. This cost me 50 euros extra per day. I felt this was a lot just to an adult only experience. Especially as I didn’t take any of the trips or the alcohol that was available. I was subsidising other people drinking all day.
Lots of families and couples, solo-travellers might feel a bit excluded, I did.
Up-selling of drinks and food on menus.
Reserve adults-only zone is only available if you pay an additional fee.
Peseta, the best restaurant, is only available once per visit
Booking restaurants through the app becomes a bore, I’m not visiting to work. I want to relax. I gave up and asked concierge to sort it out for me.
Hotel was half-full and it was a bit of a bun-fight to get a nice sun lounger. I think it will be very difficult at busy times of the year.
Not much going on in San Agustin but I was grateful that the surrounding area was quiet.
House wine not great quality. Unlike in the UK, good wine is not expensive in Spain and is readily available
All-inclusive format tempts you to drink more than normal. Not a fault of the hotel but something to be aware of.

Don't go there... because you will never want to try other hotels.
I've traveled a lot and been in many 5-star hotels, but this is above everything.
Starting from the building - it's new, fresh, cozy, located at the clean beachfront with a nice 4km running promenade along the ocean.
Service is illegal - it's too good to be true. Spain is known for lazy, slow, and bad customer service. Here - management did a great job. My applause, well done!
Many restaurants to choose from, live music, great cocktails, and delicious food.
If you book, then only ocean view. You get all-inclusive - it's totally stress-free.
Great vacation for couples of families!
Can't wait to stay there again.
Thank you, Melia!

Absolutely amazing holiday.
The all inclusive basis is exactly what a 5 star hotel should be. Beautifully presented and tasty food. Amazing, well presented cocktails. Absolutely worth the money.
We particularly enjoyed Mina for lunch. The sirloin steak was excellent!
If you are considering The Reserve upgrade, do it. This is what made the trip for us. The pool is so much quieter, the beds are comfier, the food and drink service is fantastic. (We did see a couple of peoples possessions who were reserving sunbeds get taken to lost property, as per the hotels pool policy - just something to bare in mind). However, we went for breakfast/lunch and our stuff wasn't removed.
We aren't really into group activities however it was another level of hotel entertainment here. The astrology evening was fantastic. We particularly enjoyed the wine tasting. It was a beautiful and relaxed environment. The outdoor cinema is a fantastic set up.
The restaurants really are fantastic. Pestea is a wonderfully elevated experience. The shack and gastro hall weren't for us, whilst the food was very nice, it was very busy and unfortunately, whilst the staff they do have are excellent, there just didn't seem to be enough of them to keep standards as high as the rest of the hotel.
Following on from that, my only piece of criticism is that as I've said, the staff they do have are friendly, professional and can't do enough for you. But, there just isn't enough of them. We did have to wait a while for service for breakfast on two occasions, in the ginger bar on a couple of occasions and also in Mina on one occasion. It did not spoil our trip in anyway but something I think the hotel could improve on.
Overall, I don't think I've ever said id return to a hotel before but with the all inclusive basis and The Reserve upgrade, I would defiantly return to this one. Thank you for a memorable trip.

Everything was perfect. The hotel is a destination by itself. The rooms are extra clean, well decorated. Staff is friendly and very professional. Everyone is so kind and makes sure that your stay is beyond perfect. The hotel is all inclusive so you don’t need to worry about anything, the staff can organize excursions to complete your stay. Don’t miss the stargazing experience at the hotel !
A big thanks to the staff, specially Victoria our concierge who made everything so perfect ! Gracias ☺️
