Holiday in Lanzarote

The tropical island of Lanzarote lies off the coast of Africa just north of the island of Fuerteventura. As part of the Canary Islands it enjoys the warm waters of the Mediterranean and some excellent beaches. The arid interior of the island is filled with multicoloured rocks and a volcanic landscape. Things to do whilst on your holiday in Lanzarote:

  • Visit the museum of contemporary art which has a small but modern collection of art and sculptures by leading artists.
  • Take a stroll along any one of the 93 beaches and experience the variety between black volcanic sand, white sand and soft golden sand.
  • The carnival around the end of February is not to be missed. Offering riotous celebrations which are only bettered by Rio de Janeiro.
  • Visit the castillos which used to guard the island and its trade routes against marauding pirates.

Shopping – Head to the streets of Arrecife which has a wealth of shopping in its bazaars and street shops. There is a market on Saturday morning which is ideal for finding souvenirs from local arts and crafts to clothing and jewellery.

Nightlife- The two main resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise and the capital of Arrecife house the majority of the island’s nightlife. The promenade in Puerto del Carmen is full of bars, pubs and clubs while in Costa Teguise you will find bars and cafes lining Avenida Islas Canarias. For some real local flavour head to Jose Antonio street in Arrecife.
